About the Wine

"Exciting and difficult to replicate the sensory profile of this Brunello whose main weapon is elegance. The greatness of the vintage shows itself to the full in this young wine which still has a lot to be discovered"

It's believed to take at least 10,000 hours to obtain expertise in any given field or skill. The Fanti family has been displaying mastery in Brunello production since its inception.

The winery comprises more than 34 acres where 19 of which are exclusively planted for Brunello di Montalcino and the rest is for Rosso. Ventaiolo’s vines are grown upon limestone and red clay soils in the south of Montalcino. The family utilizes traditional winemaking and aging techniques focused on obtaining the best expression of Montalcino.

2016 is one of the best vintages that Brunello has ever experienced. Wine Spectator awarded this year with a solid 99-point review, and James Suckling said: "If you ever wanted a Brunello di Montalcino for your cellar to age for decades, then buy the 2016 vintage when the wines come out in the market in January 2021. The 2016 vintage marks the second great year in a row for Brunello di Montalcino following the sensational 2015, which is currently on the market."

Aging: 48 months in Slavonian and French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 100% Sangiovese.

Reviews

Exciting and difficult to replicate the sensory profile of this Brunello whose main weapon is elegance. The swing of the senses offers a captivating matrix, rich in raspberry, blackcurrant, pomegranate, flowering geraniums, lemon rind, and mandarin juice. In the background, the Mediterranean beauty is signed by wild thyme, citronella, and wild musk. It is incandescent on the palate showing a silkiness that very few can thank for the perfectly polymerized tannins integrated into the matrix and a finale that is graceful and dynamic that closes in a tight, vertical manner whilst remaining mature and enveloping during its progression. The greatness of the vintage shows itself to the full in this young wine which still has a lot to be discovered. Better from 2022. ~97 WinesCritic.com

A soft, fruity red with cherry, plum, chocolate, and some walnut undertones. It’s medium-to-full-bodied with chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Try after 2022. ~92 James Suckling.

Aromas of red-skinned berry, leather and tobacco emerge from the glass. The juicy, balanced palate offers red cherry, clove and cinnamon alongside fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Drink 2023–2032. ~Wine Enthusiast.

The 2016 was aged for three years in large French and Slavonian oak barrels. Aromatics of cherry cola, vanilla, cinnamon, and crushed roses are followed by a palate tangy with cherry fruit, clove, tea leaf, and a saline mineral finish. This accessible and lovely Brunello is prime for early drinking in its freshness. Drink 2021-2030. ~90 Jeb Dunnuck.
