Since 1875, the Rivière family has developed their estates in the purest tradition of Bordeaux wines. Concerned about the quality of the wines produced, the vines are grown with the greatest respect of their soil and terroir. The perfect blending of grape varieties gives the wines character, elegance, and are authentic in style.Jean-Pierre and Philippe Rivière have built a wide variety of Bordeaux's, but none of which stand out more than Chateau Cheval Brun!
In the heart of Saint Emilion, in the western part of the town, this vineyard benefits from clay-limestone and sandy soil and an alios subsoil with iron grime favoring drainage. Aged in a modern vat room equipped with temperature control, the traditional fermentation lasts about 21 days and 2 to 3 daily pumping-overs are carried out in the first days of vatting in order to extract the best tannins.
Aging: 15 to 18 months in stave oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc. A beautiful, intense purple color. A nose of ripe fruit and spices with a slight vanilla finish. These impressions are confirmed in the mouth. The fat and fleshiness of the wine are mainly given by the Merlot while the Cabernet Sauvignon gives it its finesse and power.
Owned by the Rivière family, which also owns a Saint-Émilion-based negociant firm, this estate has produced a generous, ripe wine. The 85% Merlot in the blend gives a jammy, rich character that will soften and broaden as the wine matures. A firm structure within the rich fruitiness will allow the wine to develop. Drink from 2024. ~91 Wine Enthusiast
