You are buying a baby Amarone at a steep discount. Most Ripassos cost $25-40 and Amarones cost from $30-100+. This wine is from a stellar vintage and with 10 years in bottle, the wine has become more interesting.
Ripasso is a term that derives from the refermentation of the grapes on the Amarone lees, which gives the wine a deeper color, body, and dried fruit flavors. Aging is in large Slavonian oak barrels for 18 months.
Tasting Notes: Complex and intense of blackberries, fruit juice, with some notes of leather, cedar and spices.
