Once part of the Rauzan estate in Margaux, the property was divided into Chateau Rauzan-Segla, Chateau Rauzan-Gassies, Chateau Desmirail, and Chateau Marquis de Terme.
The Chateau history dates back to 1762. Thomas Jefferson considered Marquis de Terme one of the top 16 estates in Bordeaux.
The Seneclauze family has owned the estate since 1935.
Tasting notes: Red Wine. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot. Aged 16-18 months in French Oak, 50% new. Dark and tannic in its youth, the wine has started to reveal itself and is now a joy of orange peel, blackberry, fresh leather, and fennel seed.
Loads of dark berries and chocolate follow through to a full body. Velvety and tangy with a long finish. Lots of orange peel. Dusty texture. Better in 2017. ~94 James Suckling
Sumptuous cassis and blackberry nose, with a good deal of new oak. Sleek, elegant, poised, with great intensity and purity of fruit. There's spice and vigour on the mid-palate, but it's taut, tightly wound, and not very expressive now. The firm tannins contribute to a very long, chewy finish. Evidently needs time. ~93 Decanter
Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The 2009 has great precision and freshness on the nose with the mineralite coming through with every swirl. The palate is very concentrated with thick, quite chewy tannins, great substance and depth with a sweet, voluptuous finish that lingers in the mouth. Bright, full ruby-red. Sexy, syrah-like aromas of blackberry, violet, smoke, game and underbrush. Densely packed and fine-grained, with lovely inner-mouth floral lift to its crushed berry flavors. A very rich and sweet style of Margaux, but the broad, dusty, building tannins call for some cellaring. Boasts excellent length for a wine from this chateau. ~90 Vinous Media
A bright, ripe style, with very fresh crushed plum, raspberry and blackberry fruit wrapped in silky tannins and laced with hints of anise and black tea. The rounded finish has modest grip for mid-term cellaring. Drink now through 2020. 9,580 cases made. ~90 Wine Spectator
The finest wine I have ever tasted from Marquis de Terme, this seamless beauty exhibits a dense ruby/purple color along with a big, sweet bouquet of licorice, seaweed, black currants, and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied with silky tannins, a rich, concentrated mouthfeel, and a long, layered finish, it will benefit from 3-4 years of cellaring, and should evolve for 20-25 years. ~Wine Advocate
