About the Wine

Founded by Mark Tarlov (Evening Land) and originating in Burgundy, Maison L’Envoyé crafts this region’s wine trinity: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Gamay Noir. Yet from this tenor of focus and commitment, a global fellowship emerged, with terroir-driven Pinot Noir as the linchpin. Driven by the elusive hunt for the world’s finest Pinot Noir sites, Maison L’Envoyé traverses the globe, presenting the many veils of regionality and winemaking style. With winemaking footprints in Burgundy, Willamette Valley, Central Otago, and Tasmania. Mark Tarlov has brought in the expertise of Louis-Michel Liger-Belair of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. Louis-Michel started his Burgundian Domaine in 2000 and is one of the brightest young stars in the region.

Maison L’Envoyé champions many unsung growers who have farmed their vineyards for decades and generations, some mere feet away from more illustriously cited neighbors. Maison L’Envoyé has been a standout since launching in 2011 including Wine & Spirits naming it a ‘Winery To Watch’ in 2015.

Founded by Mark Tarlov (Evening Land) and originating in Burgundy, Maison Wedged between the Côte Chalonnaise and Beaujolais, the Mâconnais district’s 21 mile stretch boasts a geology not dissimilar to the famed Côte de Beaune to its north. Mâcon’s epicenter, Mont de Pouilly, rises gently with alkaline clay covering a stark limestone base, a nirvana for the Chardonnay vines in intermittent plots that laze smugly along the river Saône. The vines are traditionally Guyot (cane) pruned and the best vineyards keep yields below three tons per acre. With favorable southeast exposures and agreeable weather, the potential for generous, layered whites offering some of the best value in Burgundy, and possibly the world, is unlimited.

While Mâcon is known for its fresh, simple whites, recent investment by top Burgundian producers has resulted in more conscientious winemaking. The grapes were hand-picked in early September then pressed direct, settled overnight, and fermented with indigenous yeast in seasoned barriques.

Aging: 12-14 Months in French Oak

Tasting Notes: 100% Chardonnay. From two well sited vineyards in La Roche Vineuse and Chaintre, this is a classic white Burgundy with a bouquet of pear, nutmeg, and a spiciness that pleasantly evolves into hazelnuts. The palate has a silky texture with a vibrant freshness showing off lemon meringue and roasted almonds while a slatey minerality drives the finish.
