This is a second label from Dom. Jean Fery. The winery recruited Laurence Danel, formerly of Bouchard and Faiveley, to oversee winemaking and vineyard management. The estate has 22+ acres spread over 21 appellations from Puligny Montrachet to Gevrey Chambertin. These are pure wines with judicious use of new oak.
If you compare pricing of 1er Cru Chassagne-Montrachet from this vineyard from other wineries, you can expect to pay between $90-120/bottle. This is a screaming deal.
Tasting Notes: 100% Chardonnay, barrel fermented and aged in 80% new French oak. Only 7 barrels produced. Abbaye de Morgeot is the heart and origin of the Morgeot premier cru with lots of calcaire soils. This wine has a rich nose of candied yellow fruits and flowers with toasty vanilla and oak nuances. The wine is powerful with sweet peach, yellow plum and grilled corn richness and spicy oak in the finish.
