Querciabella’s flagship, Camartina, is one of a handful of history-making wines that dramatically elevated the standing and prestige of Italian wine on the world stage. This critically acclaimed Super Tuscan is only produced in optimal vintages, while small batch micro-vinification and an extremely limited bottling guarantee hand-crafted excellence. This silky smooth expression of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese embodies Querciabella’s quest for finesse, balance and sheer drinkability.
The vineyards where the grapes for Camartina are grown have been organically farmed since 1988, and then fully converted to biodynamic techniques in 2000. The grapes are hand harvested, de-stemmed, not crushed, then transferred into five-ton French oak fermenters. Afterwards, the wine spends (élevage) one year in French barriques (30% new oak). The wines are released no later than 30 months after harvest, the estate ages the wine so you don't have to!
Tasting notes: The wine is driven by rich red fruits and silky tannins with compliments of fein herbs, cocoa bean, and orange zest. Camartina displays depth and personality highlighted by an elegant and everlasting finish. This rich and layered Super Tuscan captures the pinnacle of Tuscany with complexity and harmony.
This is very racy and firm on the palate, yet the exotic and wild fruit of the beautiful vintage comes through. Medium-to full-bodied with an intense finish. Needs a few years to soften. Cabernet sauvignon and sangiovese. Better in 2020. From biodynamically grown grapes and vegan. ~95JS
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the 2003 Camartina is a drop-dead gorgeous effort. Fat, rich and opulent, it will reward consumers with its generous super-ripe fruit, great length and beautiful overall balance. While it doesn’t look to be one of the more long-lived Camartinas, with some air it is drinking beautifully today. It is a very refined effort in this vintage ~93RP
