At 42% off the original SRP of $65, this is a Washington state Cabernet to stock up on! This is the top barrel selection. Basically, the top 10 barrels were selected. Only 250 cases were produced in an excellent vintage. This wine was tannic and tight two years ago. It took some time to come around, and it is now an outstanding wine to be enjoying.
Note: this is NOT the entry level Horse Heaven Hills AVA generic, $25 version of Cabernet from the same winery.
About the Wine
Aromas of violet and tea tree - emblematic flavors of Washington - as well as hints of fresh cherry and Turkish delight. The entry possesses good acidity, with the influence of French oak transforming blackberry into sweet Kirsch. Plum soda and hints of savory herbs mingle and emerge to give the palate complex layers, leading into a long, juicy finish with lingering notes of mouthwatering red plum.
The 2013 Double Canyon Estate Cabernet Sauvignon comes entirely from the Double Canyon Vineyard Estate. All of the lots were hand harvested, with small lots hand punched down. The wine was barrel aged for 18 months using 40% new French oak.
About the Winery
Established in 2007, Double Canyon Vineyard is in the heart of the award-winning Horse Heaven Hills. This appellation is a historic source for many wineries, but Double Canyon is one of few estate properties located in this corner of Washington State. Named for two ravines that run through the property, Double Canyon produces an estate-grown wine that expresses the individuality of the vineyard in this distinctive windswept, desert appellation.
