Le Dix de Los Vascos is owned by the Domaines Barons de Rothschild, the owners of none other than the world-famous Château Lafite Rothschild.Lafite is a Bordeaux First Growth classified Château, and one of the most iconic, sought-after, and loved wines of all savvy wine drinkers.
Nestled in the heart of Chile's Colchagua Valley, Viña Los Vascos benefits from an ideal microclimate, positioned between the Andes and the Coastal Mountain Range. This unique location, just 200 km south of Santiago, provides the perfect conditions for viticulture. With hot, dry days and cool, wet nights, the dramatic temperature contrasts favor the slow ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, resulting in wines of remarkable elegance and depth.
The estate spans 8,800 acres, with 1,500 acres dedicated to vine cultivation. The terroir of Viña Los Vascos is diverse, featuring volcanic soils that contribute to the complexity and longevity of the wines. Here, ancient traditions harmoniously blend with modern expertise, yielding wines that are both unique and reflective of their rich heritage.
At Viña Los Vascos, the philosophy extends beyond viticulture. The estate is a vibrant ecosystem where biodiversity thrives. From olive groves producing exquisite olive oil to orchards, gardens, and even beehives, the integration of agriculture and nature is seamless. Sheep graze the pastures, providing natural fertilizer, while horses are traditionally bred and used for property surveillance.
This commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of the vineyard's operations. The estate is certified by the Code of Sustainability of Wines of Chile and proudly composts all plant waste. Innovative water management systems, including the use of earthworm-powered filtration, ensure that the vineyard operates in harmony with its environment.
Le Dix de Los Vascos is crafted with meticulous care, combining the rich traditions of Chile with the expertise of DBR Lafite. The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from the historic El Fraile vineyard and Syrah from El Mirador. The grapes are hand-selected to ensure only the finest quality goes into each bottle.
To celebrate a decade of DBR (Lafite)’s dedication in Chile, the inaugural “grande cuvée” LE DIX was born. Le Dix de Los Vascos hails from 70-year-old vines in the terroir called “El Fraile”.
Aging: 18 months in oak barrels all from the Lafite cooperage.
85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Carmenère, 5% Syrah.Deep ruby red color. Raspberry and ripe cherry-scented nose with hints of saffron, paprika, nutmeg, black pepper, chocolate, and tobacco. A broad-shouldered wine of gorgeous personality, large volume, and elegant and balanced tannin. Enjoy it with grilled meats, hearty stews, or a selection of aged cheeses.
The 2021 Le Dix displays the nuances of its cold growing season. With aromas of cherry and crushed plum, it also delivers minty and cedar notes alongside boldo and garrigue-like undertones. Dry, velvety and rich, with a structured yet weightless palate, the complex and clingy mouthfeel leads to a long-lasting, flavorful finish. Comparable to the 2010 vintage, it will continue to evolve in the bottle. As one of the iconic wines of the Colchagua Valley and Chile as a whole, Los Vascos has crafted Le Dix for over two decades. It always hails from the same clayish plot of old vines planted in Peralillo. ~96 Vinous Media
A ripe and fruit-expressive nose showing good generosity and complexity. Quince, ripe cherries and currants with subtle tobacco, dark spices and chili chocolate. Full-bodied and pretty expansive on the palate with fine, dusty tannins melting into the persistent finish. Really impressive length. It goes on and on. Juicy, firm yet really polished. Drink or hold. ~95 James Suckling
Delivers cherry, redcurrant, and blueberry aromas, with delicate spice from the oak. The palate is harmonious, with a pleasant texture and the accomplished freshness of a cool vintage. The firm, fine-grained tannins will come to the fore as this ages. A great wine in an exquisite Bordeaux style. Cabernet Sauvignon with the classic touch of 3% Syrah and for the first time, also 3% Cabernet Franc, enhancing its Bordeaux character with finesse. ~95 Decanter
It's fruity on the nose and palate, with delicate tannins. This Cabernet has a bouquet of cherry, raspberry and blackberry and a soft mouthfeel. A combination of baking spices and peppercorn wraps juicy red fruit and adds layers to this enjoyable wine.~92 Wine Enthusiast
