Seduced by the quality of terroirs in the Côtes du Roussillon, Jean-Luc Thunevin teamed up with local vigneron and a true man of the soil, Jean-Roger Calvet, and in 2000 bought a few hectares of vines located on magnificent black schist terroir. The Côtes du Roussillon AOC is a sub-appellation at the foothills of the Pyrenées mountains, close to the border with Spain that has built a long-lived reputation for producing exceptional Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah. Jean-Luc says, “Why invest the other side of the world when there are wonderful old vines, inexpensive land, and awesome countryside on the doorstep?" 2016 Thunevin-Calvet Cuvee Constance will show you why Thunevin decided to invest in this region.
Jean Luc Thunevin became a well-known figure in the wine world in less than a decade, thanks to its successful garage wine, Château Valandraud. Jean Luc aims to harvest at full maturity, he also copied the Burgundy vinification ways (pigeage…) to reach an optimum concentration. All of Jean-Luc's wines are produced with a constant commitment to excellence.
Aging: 14 months in concrete tank
Red Wine. 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 20% Carignan. The fruit is vivid in the final wine (aged 14 months in concrete tanks), with raspberry and blueberry delightfully combining, the whole infused with minerality and a sense of cool crushed stone.
A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 20% Carignan raised exclusively in concrete, the 2016 Cuvee Constance looks to be a beauty. It's almost floral, bursting with cherries and raspberries. Full-bodied, supple and creamy in texture on the palate, it's lovely, ripe, sexy stuff that lingers deliciously on the finish. ~91-93 Wine Advocate
