The Priorat region of Spain is celebrated for its rugged terrain and unique slate soils, known as Llicorella, which impart remarkable depth and minerality to its wines.

Characterized by steep, sun-drenched slopes and terraced vineyards, Priorat’s challenging landscape forces vine roots to delve deep into the earth in search of water, resulting in grapes with exceptional concentration and complexity. This demanding environment, coupled with the region's historical winemaking heritage, makes Priorat one of Spain’s most esteemed and sought-after wine regions.

J. M Fuentes stands out as a top producer within this prestigious area, consistently recognized as the #1 winery in Priorat by critics and sommeliers. With 32 hectares of vineyards, including some that are over 100 years old, the winery benefits from a rich legacy and meticulous cultivation practices.

The vineyards are managed by Josep Angel Mestre, whose profound connection to Priorat and extensive education in enology ensure a deep understanding of both viticulture and winemaking.

The Gran Clos Priorat DOCa reflects the exceptional terroir of the region. This blend features predominantly Garnacha and Carinena, with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, and Syrah.

The wine undergoes careful aging, which enhances its complexity and depth. It is recommended to decant before serving or to cellar for further maturation to fully appreciate its intricate flavors.

2018 was an outstanding year for the region. Vinous Media blessed this vintage with a 94 point review and said: "Two thousand eighteen has turned out to be a very good to outstanding vintage for regions across its Mediterranean rim."

Aging: 16 months in French oak barrels.

55% old-vine Grenache, 35% Carignan, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep, rich, inky purple. Sublime aromas recall a blend of fresh blueberries and blackberries, kirsch and mineral nuances, mingled with toasty new oak and floral notes. Velvety smooth with fine tannins that are intense and ample with a richly textured structure and pronounced complexity. Ripe fruit, bitter chocolate and mineral notes abound along with excellent levels of acidity ending with a fresh, persistent finish.
