About the Wine

Year after year, Tenuta Ulisse has been proving its high quality with multiple 95+ scores, and it has quickly become Luca Maroni's darling. The iconic Amaranta has received a solid 99 score by Maroni for almost 10 consecutive years, and 2019 was no exception.

If you’re looking for amazing wine at a great price, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is your go-to. James Suckling described Montepulciano as “solid, rich, easy-to-like, and best of all wallet-friendly wines.”

Tenuta Ulisse is located in the beautiful region of Abruzzo. This winery was founded in 2006 and today, it is a flagship for the winemaking revival of this Italian wine region.

The winery is owned and managed by brothers Antonio and Luige Ulisse, two passionate winemakers who pour their heart and soul into their family winery. Ulisse brothers have managed to perfectly combine the modernity of the new winemaking with the centennial traditions. Their vision is “To use the most expressive and unique terroirs of Abruzzo to create Abruzzo fine wine of distinction."

Ulisse winery is located about 9 miles from the Adriatic Sea. This is translated into a magnificent terroir that is benefited from maritime influence. The vineyards are planted with native grapes like  Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Pecorino, Passerina y Cococciola.

Amaranta Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is a cru wine obtained from Abruzzo’ s most important red grape, the Montepulciano. This wine represents this Tenuta’s commitment to producing outstanding, real wines, that can truly represent the terroir of Abruzzo.

Aging: 9-12 months in French and American barrels.

Tasting Notes: 100% Montepulciano. Ruby red with garnet reflections, intense and persistent fragrance; the bouquet is intense, fruity, and persistent, with notes of dried flowers, spice, licorice, and marasca cherries. The palate is stylish, velvety, almost creamy, and compact with a tannic structure that blends nicely with the alcoholic component. Great structure, complex, elegant, well balanced with a long aftertaste. Opulent fruit. Ideal for roasts, game, strongly flavored dishes, and mature cheese. We can't get enough of this wine and it's an instant sell out every time. Don't miss this icon from Abruzzo!

Reviews

~99 Luca Maroni, I Migliori Vini Italiani, Guide to Italy's Best Wines 2022

Lots of oak on the nose, announcing a structured expression of Montepulciano. Indeed, it’s full-bodied with enough black fruit to coat the velvety oak tannins, providing a pleasant fruit and oak finish. Persistent berries and vanilla cream at the end. Nicely structured and balanced, though this is less about real complexity, more about integration of fruit and oak, which it does well. Impressive for that. Drink or hold. ~92 James Suckling
