About the Wine

Steve Brady is the passionate founder and owner of On Q Wines. This cult-status winery is located in the heart of Napa Valley's Coombsville sub-appellation, where this ultra-premium and extremely limited wine is carefully crafted from only the finest grapes. This is true luxury in a bottle.

Growing up in Napa Valley, Steve developed a deep appreciation for the region's rich winemaking history. His love for wine and music soon became intertwined, as he discovered that the creation of both required impeccable timing. Since he was a child, Steve has played the trumpet. The name “On Q” perfectly portrays his love for this instrument. A cue is a gesture by a conductor signaling musicians that it is time to begin a piece. Steve says, “In wine, music, and life, timing is everything”.

Steve combines his artistic side with attention to detail to produce wines of unparalleled quality and sophistication. From his first vineyard planted in 2003, Steve's three daughters have been instrumental in his winemaking endeavors, and the family's dedication shows in every bottle. In 2010, Steve launched On Q Wines, and since the first vintage, he received glowing reviews and high scores, and today, these high scores and praises haven’t stopped.

This is a true garage wine from Napa crafted by legendary winemaker Julien Fayard, On Q’s consultant. Julien Fayard is a very well-known man in the wine industry. His expertise includes working in some of the most admired brands in the world like Château Lafite Rothschild, Quintessa, and Atelier Melka.

On top of it all, 2012 was a great vintage for Napa Valley. This year was awarded 96 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator. The last one said it was  "A solid vintage across the board marked by a tannic spine that will age well."

Aging: 30 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Incredibly opaque, dark purple core with hints of magenta and ruby on the rim. Aromas of blackcurrant liqueur, blueberry, blackberry, black cherry, and violets over complex secondary notes of cacao, tobacco, bean, and exotic baking spices. The full-bodied palate is layered with dense, captivating flavors that mirror the nose with lush black and blue fruit, chocolate, a touch of tobacco and beautifully integrated exotic spices from new French oak.

Reviews

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Apassionata is a classic 2012. Flamboyant and dramatic, with loads of sweet blackcurrant fruit as well as touches earth, camphor and charcoal embers, this Cabernet is fleshy, almost fat, with full-bodied opulence and a seductive, velvety finish. There’s no reason to defer gratification on this luscious wine, which is made in relatively small quantities (125 cases). Drink it over the next 10-12 years. ~93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Black as a cave and thick as jam, this wine offers a decadence of black licorice and chocolate truffle, aged entirely in new French oak for 30 months. Fruit plays a supporting part in the richness, making for a wine that's a dessert in itself. ~92 Wine Enthusiast
