The history of Chateau Mangot reaches all the way back to 1556. Most recently cared for by the third generation of the Todeschini family, the Chateau now has 84 acres of organically farmed vines in St. Emilion and produces expressive wines with minimal intervention in the vineyard and in the cellar—wines worthy of the storied winery’s legacy.
Minimal intervention isn’t just a buzzword to the Todeschini family. It’s been well over a decade since non-organic chemicals have been used in the vineyards. Native yeasts ferment the grapes and a limited amount of sulfites are used. This has been their way long before this winemaking style became the trend. Their efforts pay off in pure, precise, expressive wines of consistent quality that are a joy to drink.
Cuvee Todeschini is the signature, and most special label of the winery. Brothers Karl and Yann have been crafting this cuvee (where they impregnate their love and passion) since 2008: "This Cuvee is a strong human bias. It will thus evolve according to our experience, our desires, our convictions."
2018 was an outstanding vintage in Saint Emilion. Vinous Media blessed this year with a 96 point review, and said "The 2018 Right Bank wines are opulent, flamboyant reds. It is a very strong vintage that falls just short of being truly epic."
Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels (1/3 new)
40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

A unique blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Château Mangot Todeschini Distique 11 has a gorgeous nose of black raspberries, cassis, acacia flowers, white chocolate, and graphite. With fabulous purity of fruit, full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and loads of floral and sappy herb aromas and flavors, this is gorgeous Saint-Emilion and the finest I've tasted from this address. It needs 3-4 years of bottle age and will keep two decades or more. ~95+ Jeb Dunnuck
The nose is elegant, and beautifully built, and offers power (full of justness and control), intensity as well as a beautiful grain and a straight side. It reveals notes of Boysen berry, small ripe black fruits, small notes of bright blueberry associated with touches of bright/fleshy plum, strawberry as well as fine hints of fresh lilac, iris, time pepper, discreet hints of sense of the place, fresh nutmeg and a discreet hint of sugared orangette. The palate is fruity, fresh, well-balanced, and mineral and offers a beautiful finesse/elegance, a beautiful acidulous frame, a beautiful finesse of the grain as well as suavity (in finesse). On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy/fleshy blackberry, fresh/juicy cassis, small notes of bright/fresh small fruits associated with touches of bright blueberry as well as hints of iris, fresh lilac, fresh licorice, a discreet hint of tonka bean, toasted, dry almond, an imperceptible hint of a sense of the place and a very discreet hint of spices. A very fine firmness and sapidity on the finish. Tannins are elegant, fine, and precise and offer finesse as well as a certain straightness. ~94-95 VertdeVin
With a new name, note the Distique 11 on the label, the dark-colored wine hits you with layers of velvet textured dark red, black, and blue fruit. Full-bodied, concentrated, and with layers of black cherries, licorice, chocolate, and plums, the wine hits all the right notes on your palate. This should age for 2-3 decades with ease. This is clearly a new level for the winery. Give this a few years in the cellar before popping a cork. ~94 The Wine Cellar Insider
