According to ancient Persian legend, King Jamsheed was able to observe his entire realm by peering into his full wine chalice. This approachable Pinot covers all the bases. Plenty of generous fruit, with black cherry, raspberry, blackberry, plum, and black currant, play beautifully with its slightly more serious side of sweet smoke, forest floor, and cracked black pepper. Well-integrated fine tannins and a long finish make this the ideal dinner party wine.
Moe and Flora Momtazi, after immigrating from Iran in the 1980s, transformed a 532-acre estate into what is now the revered Momtazi Vineyard and Maysara Winery. Situated in the picturesque McMinnville AVA of Oregon, about 50 miles southwest of Portland, this vineyard is a testament to the family's dedication and passion.
The Momtazi daughters have taken the reins, with each contributing significantly to the winery's success. Together, they embody the spirit of their father's lessons on organic farming and respect for the earth, principles instilled by Moe’s grandfather in Iran.
Maysara Winery operates with a philosophy that 90% of winemaking happens in the vineyard. Their grapes are cultivated using Demeter Certified Biodynamic methods, eschewing chemicals in favor of holistic, low-impact practices. The vineyard is a thriving ecosystem where medicinal and dynamic flowers and herbs flourish, used to create nourishing compost teas.
The Momtazi family believes in holding vintages until each wine is fully evolved, allowing every bottle to mature on its own timeline. The 2015 Jamsheed Pinot Noir, the most fruit-driven of their top-tier releases, is a true reflection of this meticulous approach.

Bottle age has lent some elegance to this wine; its secondary aromatics lead with tobacco, smoke, mushroom and pine tips all mingling with suave refinement. A burst of dark red-cherry fruit pushes through the savor, the burnished tannins ready for pan-roasted trout. ~92 Wine & Spirits
A blend from all the different types of elevation sites, clones, and soils, the 2015 Pinot Noir Jamsheed pours a medium pristine ruby and jumps from the glass with poppy notes of mixed red fruits, raspberry coulis, candied roses, spice, and cardamom. The palate is elegant and silky in texture, with medium body, fine tannins, and a long, clean finish. ~92 Jeb Dunnuck
Maysara's owners believe in holding vintages until wines are fully evolved rather than releasing them chronologically. So this is the current vintage as of early 2022. It's taking on sunset hues around the edges, and it's soft and smooth on the palate. To find a well-stored, well-aged Pinot from this outstanding vintage at this price is rare indeed. Spicy strawberry fruit and leaf flavors, light tannins and firm acids keep it fresh and lively. ~91 Wine Enthusiast
