In Bordeaux, Catherine Pere-Verge was a Rockstar. She owned some of the most emblematic wine estates in the country like Chateau La Violette, Chateau Le Gay, La Graviere, Chateau Tristan, and of course Chateau Montviel, which was the very first property she acquired back in 1985.
Being friends with legendary winemaker Michel Rolland, brought many perks to Catherine, one of them being one of the founding members of Michel’s Argentinian winery, Clos de Los Siete, and the other one that Rolland has served as a wine consultant to Montviel from 1988 until today.
Besides having Rolland’s expertise, all the technical team that works at Château Montviel is the same one in charge of both renowned estates Chateau Le Gay and Chateau La Violette.
Montviel is located just 1 mile away from Petrus and Château Le Pin. The vineyard is composed of 24 acres planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cab Franc. The terroir is unique with fine soils composed of sand and gravel, and the best plots are placed in clay and gravel, the grape from these plots is used to create this Grand Vin.

This is a full-bodied and very rich Pomerol with loads of ripe berry and chocolate character. Rich, velvety tannins and a long, muscular finish. Old style that makes me think of Pomerols from the 1950s. Look out for it. Try after 2026. ~95 James Suckling

Shows the ripe and warm feel of the vintage, with cassis, plum puree and blackberry compote notes, carried by a refined and silky structure and laced with subtle anise and black tea on the finish. Nicely done. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2023 through 2036. ~92 Wine Spectator
The 2019 Montviel is wonderfully deep, fleshy and expressive. Dark red cherry, plum, cedar, tobacco, menthol, spice, new leather, rose petal and mint give this plump, juicy Pomerol plenty of immediacy. Pretty floral notes grace the finish. The 2019 is very nicely done. ~92 Vinous Media
The 2019 Château Montviel is beautiful, with a pure, precise, incredibly elegant style as well as medium-bodied aromas and flavors of black and blue fruits, damp earth, and spring flowers. It shows the seamless, balanced style of the vintage in Pomerol nicely and will keep for 15+ years. ~92 Jeb Dunnuck
The nose is fruity and offers a very fine powder. It reveals notes of raspberry, and strawberry, small notes of violet associated with small touches of plum as well as discreet hints of nutmeg/cardamom. The nose is fruity, and well-balanced, and offers a juicy/acidulous frame, a good definition, gourmandize as well as a fine tension. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of crunchy/juicy, crunchy raspberry, small notes of juicy blackberry associated with small touches of violet as well as fine hints of toasted, caramelization, chocolate, iris, and a hint of almond (in the background). Good length. Tannins are well-built. ~90 Vert de Vin
