About the Wine

This wine is a fantastic representation of the deep-rooted traditions and exceptional terroir of Barolo.

Since 1761, Borgogno has been crafting outstanding wines. This historic winery has been a pillar of the Barolo wine scene for over two centuries, thanks to Bartolomeo Borgogno's vision.

Throughout the years, Borgogno wines have played a role in significant moments, like the Unification of Italy in 1861 and Tsar Nicola II Romanov's visit in 1908.

Borgogno remains faithful to traditional winemaking methods. They use concrete tanks for fermentation and age their wines in large Slavonian oak barrels. Cesare Borgogno's ingenious decision to hold back half of the Barolo Riserva production for two decades has resulted in extraordinary wines.

In 2008, the Farinetti family took ownership, and committed to upholding traditions. Renovations in 2009 restored the main building to its former glory. In 2013, they returned to using concrete for fermentation and embraced organic practices in 2015.

Borgogno's estate spans 50.6 hectares, with a focus on Nebbiolo, along with Dolcetto, Barbera, Freisa, Riesling, and Timorasso. They proudly possess five esteemed Barolo cru vineyards: Liste, Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, and San Pietro delle Viole.

2013 was an outstanding vintage for this region. Vinous Media blessed this year with a 97 point review, and said: "It is a vintage of austere, classically structured wines built for cellaring. At the top, 2013 is a thrilling Barolo vintage!"

Tasting Notes: 100% Nebbiolo.

Reviews

This is an impressive blend that shows complexity and depth. Wonderfully harmonious ripe fruit and polished tannins, which give character of smoke, cedar, walnuts, hazelnuts and plums. Medium to full body and a flavorful finish. ~94 James Suckling

This boasts tantalizing aromas of violet, iris, perfumed berry and aromatic herb. On the radiant, elegantly structured palate, tight refined tannins support juicy red cherry, cranberry, white pepper and star anise. It's balanced, with vibrant acidity. Drink 2023–2033. ~94 Wine Enthusiast

Firmly in the savory camp, exuding rosemary, sage, juniper and eucalyptus aromas and flavors. Dense tannins form a solid matrix, while the finish is compact. Meaty. Best from 2022 through 2043. 2,500 cases made, 945 cases imported. ~92 Wine Spectator

Bright red fruit nose. The palate is medium-bodied, sleek and elegant with poise and subtlety. Bracing acidity will keep it lively throughout a meal. Very long and stylish. ~92 Decanter
