About the Wine

This is an icon wine in Napa and 2016 is a vintage not to be missed for the serious collector. 

Jason Pahlmeyer, a former trial attorney, launched the project in the early 1980's with the help of Randy Dunn. In 1986, the red blend received immediate critical acclaim from none other than Robert Parker. Later, Bob Levy and Helen Turley made the wines. David Abreu planted the vineyards. Today, Bibiana González Rave is head winemaker and oversees the Jayson and Wayfarer brands too.

This wine is a Bordeaux blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec

Tasting notes: This wine has a deep garnet rim with a dark burgundy-hued core. A nose of sweet vanilla, cigar and blackberry carries over onto the soft, voluptuous palate. Ripe fruit flavors are accented with notes of licorice, graphite slate and unsweetened chocolate powder, while hints of dark roasted coffee show up on the very edges of the tongue.

Reviews

A concentrated and essence-like nose of elderberries, blackcurrant compote, peppermint and forest floor, but also hot stones, pressed violets and fresh eucalyptus. So complete and complex on the palate, which is full-bodied and layered with super velvety tannins, wrapping the seamless fruit together. A mouthful of pure silk. Drink in 2025. ~ 96, JS

Composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Proprietary Red Wine gives up bold notes of fresh blackcurrants, black cherries and wild blueberries with hints of cigar box, tilled soil, dried bay leaves and smoked meats plus a hint of lavender. Medium-bodied and fantastically intense in the mouth, it has a wonderful core of muscular fruit and a firm, ripe, fine-grained frame to match, finishing very long. ~96+, WA

This offers ripe and showy boysenberry, plum and cassis flavors that roll through atop the polished structure, ending with flashes of warm red licorice, roasted apple wood and sweet tobacco.
