2019 in Brunello di Montalcino is looking to be one of the greatest vintages of recent years. This isn’t just another bottle of Brunello—it’s a heartfelt tribute to three generations of winemaking passion, born and raised on the rolling hills of Montalcino. From the Mantengoli family to your glass, this wine captures the essence of tradition, innovation, and the timeless beauty of Tuscany.

La Rasina was born in the 1970s when Sante Mantengoli saw the potential of this breathtaking land. His son Vasco took the reins a decade later, turning the farm’s focus to crafting exceptional Brunello. Today, it’s Marco, the third generation, who’s carrying on the family legacy. With an organic approach and a commitment to minimal intervention, Marco lets the land speak for itself, creating a wine that feels alive with authenticity.

The vineyards, some as old as 30 years, are perched at 350 meters above sea level, just northeast of Montalcino. Overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage site of Val d’Orcia, these vines soak up the Tuscan sun, producing grapes bursting with character. Each bunch is harvested at perfect ripeness, fermented naturally, and aged for 26 months in oak casks. The result? A wine that’s elegant, rich, and deeply soulful, much like the land it hails from.

Whether you’re pairing it with a hearty truffle risotto, an herb-crusted lamb, or simply enjoying it on its own, the 2019 La Rasina Brunello di Montalcino is a true showstopper. It’s not just a wine; it’s an invitation to experience the heart of Tuscany, one sip at a time.

Aging: 26 months in oak barrels.

100% Sangiovese Grosso. Brick red and ruby tinged in color, this is a classic Brunello for the Tuscan lover. Those nose on this wine is filled with uplifting aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of exotic cardamom. Full-bodied with attention-grabbing tannins reminiscent of Turkish coffee, the wine is exquisitely balanced. Ripe, red-fruit overtones layer themselves into muscovado sugar and baker’s chocolate as the finish lingers for a pleasantly-long time. Consider this wine with an osso bucco, bistecca fiorentina, or any Tuscan specialty.

A firm, velvety-textured wine and not overbearing, offering red cherries and hints of cedar and mushrooms. Chewy and structured. Excellent structure and a savory finish. Cool, structured red. From organically grown grapes.Best in three to four years and beyond. Try in 2026. ~95 James Suckling

Serious and decidedly complex in its sensorial profile, it shows notes of black plums, blackberries, wild myrtle, incense, cumin, crumbled tobacco and cloves. Full body, soft, well-finishedtannins and a solid and balanced finish that makes pleasantness and harmony its main weapon. Better from 2025. ~ 95 WinesCritic.com
