Just south of Stag’s Leap, nestled in the Mt. George Foothills on the eastern side of Napa Alley, is Robert Craig’s volcanic, stony-soiled La Londe Vineyard. This is one of the important Cabernets in the winery’s portfolio, and arguably one of the important Cabernets of Napa, which is saying something considering Napa is the Cabernet capital of the U.S.

Bob Craig bought the winery that now bears his name in 1990, after a long and storied career in wine at The Hess Collection on Mount Veeder in the 1980s. A few years later, he released three Cabernets from the 1993 vintage, Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, and Affinity. He still produces those three standard bearing Napa Cabs today.

2018 was a Napa winemaker's dream, a vintage Decanter says “belongs in an echelon with the finest of the past two decades,” and 2018 Wine Spectator blessed this year with 99 points and said it was a"Spectacular year, with wines that are rich and dark, but detailed, restrained in style and very terroir-driven."

100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2018 Diamond Mountain District wine is dark colored, deep and perfumed with loads of dark, floral tones, mineral, spice-box and graphite pouring out of the glass. On the palate, the profound structure is matched with layer after layer of luscious fruit and round, ripe tannins.

Fragrant nose of blackcurrants, plums, cherries, bay leaves, pine needles, graphite and spice box. Full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and bright acidity. Expressive and structured with a deep, concentrated core of dark fruit. Long and seamless. Better from 2024. ~95 James Suckling
