Spring Mountain has established itself as one of the preeminent Estates in North America gaining a cult following amongst many wine industry pundits and amassing a reputation for producing some of the most well-lived Cabernet Sauvignons in the world!
Historically, Spring Mountain has stayed away from major critics and the veneer of wine scores but that hasn't kept them from the spotlight. From Late Night with Conan O'Brien to White House Dinners, and Master Sommeliers showcasing their excellence on the Kelly Clarkson Show, Spring Mountain's reputation precedes itself. Constantly over-delivering during great and mediocre vintages, Spring Mountain is second to none; and if a Judgment of Paris style tasting we're to take place today? Only those who haven't blessed their palets with this unparalleled wine would be surprised. Top producer in a great vintage and a wine guaranteed to live on over the next 30+ years? The choice is yours.
Spring Mountain Vineyard manages 225 acres of masterfully cultivated vines on the eastern slopes of Spring Mountain in Napa Valley where austere soils produce extremely low yields of intensely flavored, long-lived wines. The privately-owned estate is comprised of four historic vineyards first planted to vine in the late 1800s. Only estate bottled wines are produced.
The 2016 vintage was a fruitful one featuring an abundant harvest full of high-quality & near-perfect fruit! Wine Spectator & Wine Advocate gave the vintage a 98 point rating. Many of the 2016 Napa Cabernets have long been sold due to high demand. Here is an opportunity to acquire one of the last late releases from one of the world's best Cabernet Sauvignon producers and is guaranteed to surprise those who drink it during its youth and reward those who wait for perfection!
Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage shows the classic characteristics of Spring Mountain. On the nose, this young Cabernet shows cedar, cassis, and bay leaf interwoven violets and white peppercorn. The palate presents notes of blackberry bramble, plum and cocoa integrated with a layer of bright red fruits and hints of thyme and sage. A strong smooth backbone of oak and tannin balances out the fruit providing for long-term aging of 15+ years. Decant 2-3 hours before serving.
Features black currant, blackberry, and boysenberry reduction flavors that are tightly coiled, for now, carried by well-embedded acidity and racy graphite notes. The long finish pumps out fruit, with extra anise and sweet tobacco elements checking in. This should evolve well in the cellar. Best from 2022 through 2040. ~95 Wine Spectator
