About the Wine

Whitehall Lane was founded in 1979 but the history of the soil cultivation dates back two centuries. In 1993, the Leonardini Family of San Francisco and Saint Helena purchased the Whitehall Lane estate. Winemaking practices have evolved, state-of-the-art technology has been implemented, a new barrel-aging program has been instituted and six additional vineyards have been acquired since the acquisition. Second and third generations are now contributing to the success of the winery and vineyards as well.

A blend of three Leonardini estate vineyards, this flagship wine melts the hearts of Napa Cabernet lovers. When offered the opportunity, we took a position and negotiated the best deal anywhere.

About the Winemaker

Jason Moulton is a hands-on winemaker who has trained at several well regarded wineries including Long Meadow Ranch Winery in St. Helena, Cliff Lede Vineyards in Yountville and at Brassfield Estate Winery in Lake County. He has
had the opportunity to work with renowned winemakers Philippe Melka, David Ramey, and Ashley Heisey.

Winemaker Tasting Notes:  The wine has a deep, intense color and a distinct fruit center that begins with rich black currants, cedar, mixed berry crumble, graphite, chocolate, and a touch of licorice on the nose.  Its balance and mid-palate are most notable, providing long plush tannins alongside its dense fruit character. On the palate, it delivers blackberries, toasted brioche, black olives, walnuts, and a mélange of baking spices and vanilla on the finish.  The good underlying tannin structure, complexity and ample fruit guarantees rewards to the patient collector.

Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Estate

Aging: 27 months, 65% new French oak

Reviews

The barrel sample of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Leonardini Estate, one of the flagship wines, has a dense purple color, beautiful blueberry and blackberry fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel and terrific upside potential. There are 2,350 cases of this and it looks to be an outstanding example of 2014--and of Whitehall Lane. Drink it over the next 15-20 years. ~91-93pts WA

Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Leonardini Estate spent 27 months in 65% new French oak. It offers a distinct earthiness as well as beautiful purity in its crème de cassis and black raspberry fruits. This is followed by a rich, medium to full-bodied, concentrated wine that has classic notes of cedar, lead pencil and violets, ripe, present tannin, good acidity, and a clean, focused finish. It’s a high-quality Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that will benefit from short-term cellaring (which isn’t the norm for 2014s) and keep for 10-15 years. ~92pts, JD
