About the Wine

Brunello is always a favorite, but 2015 (alongside 2016 are considered the region’s best vintages ever), and wine lovers and collectors are clamoring to fill their wine racks and cellars with these lauded Tuscan bottles. The longer the bottles from these vintages are on the market, the scarcer they’ll become. We all know scarcity drives up the price, so NOW is the time to secure the critically acclaimed 2015 Brunello di Montalcino.

When it comes to deciding whether or not to buy wines from the vintage, James Suckling makes the decision easy for you when he says, "

The 2015 vintage is a historical year for Brunello di Montalcino that nobody should miss. The wines show impressive precision of vivid fruit, fine tannins, and freshness in acidity despite their ripeness and richness which makes them some of the most exciting in years."

La Fiorita is owned by American-born Natalie Oliveros whose Calabrese Nonna exposed her at an early age to basement winemaking. Following a successful career in adult entertainment, she became owner of this winery. In the early 2000s, her basement training came in handy when she began collaborating with the winery’s then-co-owner Roberto Cipreso on a series of Italian wines. She’s now the primary owner of La Fiorita and, along with the talented winemaker Vincenzo Pirrone, is raising the already respected reputation and quality of La Fiorita, shifting the vineyards toward organic viticulture and modernizing the cellars with the addition of a two-level gravity-fed cantina.

La Fiorita does not craft this iconic Brunello every year, this wine is only produced on the TOP vintages (like 2015). This stunning wine is produced from the best grapes from just one of the winery’s four vineyards called Pian Bossolino.

Aging: 24 months in Slovenian oak cask, 4 months in steel before bottling, 18th months in the bottle before release.

Tasting Notes100% Sangiovese. Cherry, leather, menthol, and tobacco on the nose. Ripe fruits on the palate, medium-bodied, velvety tannins, and fresh acidity.

Reviews

A rich Brunello with plenty of ripe-fruit, spice, porcini mushroom and nutmeg character. Full body. Dense and flavorful. Ripe and polished tannins. Excellent structure and focus. Give this time to come together. Try after 2021. ~95 James Suckling

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino stands out thanks to the very glossy and polished quality of the fruit on display. The smooth texture of the wine sets it apart and gives it a distinct personality. This expression drinks nicely out of the gate but could stand up to more cellar aging, especially to further finesse that silky, shiny texture. Some 21,500 bottles were made. ~93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Developed ruby red color with an orange rim. Pure and floral nose with fine oak underneath blending red berries, ripe cherry, tobacco and mild spice notes. The palate is dense and vigorous with grainy tannin, nice intensity with finely spicy red fruit followed by a long and nuanced finish. ~94 Andreas Larsson

Originally a partnership with consulting oenologist Roberto Cipresso, La Fiorita is now entirely owned by New York native Natalie Oliveros. She has hired renowned consultant Maurizio Castelli and moved towards aging in larger French oak casks. Wild forest berries, spice, and sweet mint aromas are immediately appealing. It's full and rich with lots of stuffing and clingy tannins. A touch of astringency appears on the finish but overall this is well-balanced. Drinking Window 2020 - 2029 ~91 Decanter

Bright, brilliant ruby with garnet. Nose of cheese rind, lemon juice, then red fruits, confusing. Tension and a lot of juice on the palate, show dancing acidity, medium body, still has to find itself a little. ~91 Falstaff

Cherry and plum fruit is underscored by dense, dusty tannins in this ripe, fluid red. Lively acidity keeps this well-defined, as iron, earth and sanguine accents emerge. Shows fine balance and length. Best from 2022 through 2038. 1,750 cases made, 900 cases imported. ~90 Wine Spectator
