Fontanafredda is more than a winery; it's a Langhe legend. Since 1858, they've been putting Piedmont's Barolo on the world map. Led by the visionary Oscar Farinetti, they've built a wine empire that truly reflects the heart and soul of the region.
Fontanafredda’s roots trace back to 1858, born from the legendary love story between King Vittorio Emanuele II and Rosa Vercellana. Today, this heritage is celebrated through their exceptional wines, crafted with an unwavering commitment to quality and authenticity.
Fontanafredda proudly cultivates 290 acres of organic vineyards, spanning the diverse terroirs of Serralunga d’Alba, Barolo, and beyond. This dedication to organic farming not only honors the land but also produces wines of unparalleled purity and expression.
Fontanafredda's wines are renowned worldwide, with accolades that highlight their exceptional quality. The Barolo La Rosa 2008 was named one of the 100 best wines in the world by Wine Spectator in 2013. Continuing this tradition of excellence, the first Barolo at M.G.A. Fontanafredda in 2017 also garnered significant acclaim, reaffirming their place at the pinnacle of winemaking. Fontanafredda was also honoured as the "European Cellar of the Year" by Wine Spectator.Their dedication to sustainability, quality, and community has established them as a beacon of excellence in the world of wine.
Their massive estate in Serralunga d'Alba is a wine lover's paradise. This is the biggest single vineyard estate in the whole Langhe! They grow their grapes across different towns, all with that perfect blend of sun and soil. And since 2018, they've been leading the pack as Piedmont's largest organic winery.
100% Nebbiolo. A Barolo with a bright, ruby red color, with bright garnet reflections, which has an intriguing bouquet to the nose and recalls withered rose and underwood. The intense fragrance leaves room for spicier, more complex and more elegant hints. In the mouth it’s silky, but at the same time, tense, rotund and vibrant. An aroma of small red fruit, as well as a hint of mint. The tannin is young and energetic, and it expresses all its aging potential, which is typical of a great Barolo.
Smooth and savory, this lovely red has aromas of fragrant blue flowers, new leather, wild berries and tobacco leaf. On the elegant, structured palate, taut, refined tannins support raspberry compote, blood orange, licorice and baking spice. ~94 Wine Enthusiast
This aromatic red delivers rose, cherry, strawberry and eucalyptus aromas and flavors allied to nervous tannins. Vibrant and focused, with a mineral-tinged finish, this is going to be impressive when the fruit and tannins fully integrate. Best from 2025 through 2042.17,000 cases made, 5,100 cases imported. ~93 Wine Spectator
A clean-cut Barolo with intense, focused aromas and flavors of red berries and lots of floral and herbal notes. Medium-bodied with a balanced, silky feel to the palate and lots of delicious, spicy-fruit flavor. Drinkable even now, but will improve in the bottle. ~92 James Suckling
Fascinating and decidedly intriguing in the main profile it shows notes of raspberries, cherries, orange juice and mixed white flowers. Full body, soft and relaxed on the palate, it shows soft, fine-grained tannins and a compact finish of solid beauty. Better from 2024. ~92 WinesCritic.com
Flavors of soft red cherry wrap around a core of cool, ferrous tannins that keep the ripe fruit lively and bright. Juicy and balanced, it would make a good steakhouse pour. ~91 Wine & Spirits
