About the Wine

The vines for Chateau Lamothe were first acquired in 1873 and have been continuously cultivated, uninterrupted for four generations.

Located southwest of Bordeaux in the commune of Haux, Château Lamothe has crafted estate-bottled wine since the 16th century. For four generations succession was passed down on the mother's side and since 1956 the estate has been run by the Néel-Chombart family. Over the past 60 years, the family has amassed prime vineyard land which now spans 80 hectares of clay and limestone slopes on the Right Bank. Additionally, they restored the distinctive façade of the historic chateau (now pictured on all Lamothe labels) and renovated the 17th-century limestone quarries into underground cellars ideal for aging.

Today the estate is run by brothers Fabien and Christophe Vincent who have lead a technological evolution including the construction of a new winery in 2000 and in-depth soil analysis in 2010. They broke down the vineyard into individual blocks allowing for an easier and cleaner vinification. Under the guidance of the two brothers, the Estate has become more environmentally friendly and received a level 3 HEV certification in 2013. Château Lamothe is a true Bordeaux gem, at an unbeatable price. Christophe and Fabien have proved that progress and environmental awareness can go hand in hand, creating one of the most delicious and elegant Bordeaux wines. This of this as a perfect bistro wine.

Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc. Behind the garnet appearance, lie intense, almost jammy, red and dark fruit notes. The wine is crunchy, rounded, and full on the palate, backed by soft, refined tannins. A very well-structured Bordeaux wine, and absolutely delicious. The wine is fruit-forward due to no time in oak.
