Wine is Bernard Magrez’s life’s passion, and he’s known it since he was 16 years old. He purchased his first vineyard in 1983, and he nowowns 43 vineyards around the world, many of them in France in Languedoc, Rousillon, and Provence, along with four esteemed grand cru classé Châteaux in Bordeaux.
Margrez’ Château de Muraires is one of his Provence properties, lying in the heart of the Var countryside—halfway between Nice and Aix-en-Provence— at the base of the Maures massif. This “Black Mountain”, formed from dark stone and covered in dense forest, overlooks the gorgeous château and its fabulous terraced vineyards on the southern slopes of limestone scree. The excellent drainage and the southern exposure are an ideal setup for growing the Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle, and Syrah in this rosé. (If you’re unfamiliar with Rolle, it’s the same grape the Italians call Vermentino.)
This rosé is no bland “summer water.” It’sdry and full-bodied with plenty of berry and citrus that comes through, suitable for drinking year-round. Anageable rosé, it’s drinkable now but may benefit from staying in the cellar until 2023 as well as a few years beyond.
Aging: 60% of the volume is vinified and matured in 600 liter almud-style barrels from Chateau Pape Clement on the lees.
Tasting Notes: 40% Cinsault, 40% Rolle, 10% Grenache, and 10% Syrah with red berries and peaches on the nose and red berries and citrus on the palate. Well-balanced and dry. Refreshing acidity.
This is a white blend that’s made with 41% white Rolle, providing perfume and spice. It is a full-bodied wine, bursting with red berry and citrus flavors. Drink from 2023 ~92 Wine Enthusiast
