Welcome to Fontanassa, where history meets wine in the heart of the Gavi region. Imagine a centuries-old farmhouse, once home to noble Genoese families, now dedicated to crafting exceptional Gavi wines. The story begins in 1988 when brothers Marco and Roberto Gemme, with the help of the talented oenologist Gaspare Buscemi, bottled their first Gavi D.O.C.G., continuing a legacy that dates back to the 16th century.

Fontanassa isn’t just about making wine; it’s about honoring the land. The estate spans 90 hectares, with 43 of those dedicated to vineyards. The vines are rooted in clayey soil with iron-rich sands, and they soak up the sun from their south and southwest-facing slopes at 290 – 330 meters above sea level. It’s the perfect spot for growing Cortese grapes, with each bottle reflecting the care and tradition poured into it.

The 2021 Fontanassa Gavi is like a breath of fresh air. It opens with bright aromas of green apple, white peach, and a touch of almond, all wrapped in the vineyard's signature mineral notes. When you take a sip, you’ll enjoy a crisp, lively wine with a refreshing acidity and a clean, elegant finish. It’s a wine that’s easy to love and even easier to drink.

Fontanassa is all about authenticity. It’s a wine that’s deeply connected to its roots, crafted with respect for the land and its rich history.

Decanter says “Gavi and Cortese: a perfect pairing. The Cortese variety offers a snapshot of the terroir, which is easily recognizable. Location and geography make Gavi a haven for characteristically crisp, dry, and minerally whites, perfect for summer drinking.”

100% Cortese. This is a white wine with personality, which resolutely defends its characteristics against the perils of time, allowing it to maintain the highest quality for several seasons. Straw-yellow with greenish highlights, it has an ample nose, with an intense bouquet featuring flowers, vanilla, lemon, lily of the valley and bitter apples. Its nicely dry taste is full, well-balanced and elegant. Excellent as an aperitif, it is its very best served with starters and fish and shellfish dishes. Its the perfect summer wine, but its gastronomic pairings know no seasonal limits.

Fresh and steely, with sliced limes and green apples and some minerals. Medium body, nice fruit and a steely finish. ~90 James Suckling
