Perched atop a limestone plateau in Saint-Émilion, Château de Pressac is a historic estate with roots stretching back to the 12th century. In 1453, the English forces signed their surrender here, marking the end of the Hundred Years' War.

The estate is also deeply woven into Bordeaux’s viticultural history. In the 18th century, it was one of the first in the region to cultivate the Auxerrois grape, now known as Malbec, which was locally referred to as "Noir de Pressac." Since 1997, Jean-François and Dominique Quenin have meticulously revitalized the vineyard and winemaking facilities, leading to Grand Cru Classé status in 2012.

The 2022 vintage is a brilliant expression of this iconic terroir. The growing season was defined by intense heat and drought, yet the vineyard’s natural resilience and meticulous farming resulted in wines of remarkable freshness and balance.

A blend of 69% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Malbec, and 1.5% Carmenère, the wine showcases the estate’s diverse varietals. Vinified in cube-shaped concrete vats and aged for 12 months in 65% new French oak barrels, it achieves a perfect balance of depth, structure, and elegance.

2022 was an extraordinary vintage for Bordeaux, it was blessed with a 95-98 pt review by Wine Spectator who said: "A beautiful vintage. Merlot berries were small and concentrated; Cabernet Franc also relished the conditions. Wines are very aromatic and sleek, with Pomerol and St.-Emilion excelling"

Critical Reviews

The 2022 de Pressac is a wild, exotic wine, as it so often is. Soaring aromatics make a strong first impression. Rich, deep and vibrant, the 2022 has a lot to offer, but it also needs time to come together. Blood orange, sage, mint, mocha, espresso and dried herbs blossom nicely with time in the glass. This is notably savory in character. ~95 Vinous Media

Bright and vibrant, a lovely cleanness , so pure, so fine and well worked, generous, appealing but the weight and the texture and the tannic integration is flawless. Round, easy, lovely black and red fruits, great chalky coolness with some minerality and liquorice, graphite tang on the finish. A wine you could drink today but know there’s power underneath. Compelling and a clear buy. Detailed, finessed, refined, balanced and crisp, juicy and charming. Everything you want in a wine. ~95 Decanter

Ripe blackberry and cassis here with medium to full body and deep red berry succulence in the middle. Supple and sleek but wide and lengthy, with silky tannins. Long finish. ~94-95 James Suckling

The 2022 Château De Pressac should be terrific. It has a forward, supple, incredibly charming style carrying lots of spicy red fruits, notes of leather, dried herbs, and loamy earth, medium body, plenty of mid-palate depth, and ripe tannins. I love its overall balance, and this is a seriously good 2022 that's going to offer pleasure right out of the gate. (Tasted twice.) ~92-94 Jeb Dunnuck
