Meet a Napa Cab like no other. Crafted by J. Derek Beitler—yes, from that winemaking family (Caymus, anyone?)—this is a Cabernet you’ll want to pay attention to. Derek brings his expertise and passion into every bottle, and this 2018 vintage is a standout.
Sourced from the prized Alsace Vineyard, sitting at the crossroads of Rutherford and Oakville, this Cab thrives in the famed Cortina Series soils. Hot days, cool nights, and perfect drainage give these grapes bold flavor, rich color, and depth.
The Vintage 2018 was pure magic. With a long, warm growing season and perfect picking conditions, the grapes reached peak ripeness. The result? Vibrant acidity, intense color, and smooth, silky tannins that make this wine a joy to drink. Wine Spectator blessed this year with 99 points and said it was a "Spectacular year, with wines that are rich and dark, but detailed, restrained in style and very terroir-driven."
This wine is only produced on best vintages and in 2018 only 120 cases were made, with meticulous care. A five-day cold soak, natural malolactic fermentation, and 50% new French oak barrels give this wine its luxurious texture and depth. Three years of aging on lees make it beautifully smooth.
This isn’t just any Cab—this is Napa royalty in a bottle, crafted by a winemaker who knows his stuff. Small production, big impact. Grab it while you can!
Aging: 3 years in French oak barrels (50% new)
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2018 Massif Cabernet Sauvignon showcases a deep ruby hue with aromas of vanilla, mocha, dried red and black fruits, and hints of leather and oak. On the palate, it reveals rich flavors of dark cherry, and dark chocolate, firm tannins and a lingering finish of black tea and oak. This bold Napa Cab pairs beautifully with grilled rib eye, lamb chops, or aged cheddar, making it a perfect match for hearty, flavorful dishes.
Massif is produced by Derek Beitler, whose Cortina Series aims to highlight wines grown in Rutherford's gravelly, sandy loam Cortina soils, which impart unique mineral characteristics to this 2018 Massif. Expressive notes of blackcurrants, kirsch, and bay laurel leap from the glass, accompanied by spiced plums. Fine-grained, mineral-laced, chalky tannins make their mark on the mid-palate, resolving with nuances of leather, sandalwood, and vanilla bean. Rich and deliciously satisfying.~93 Decanter Magazine
Dusty ruby color. Aromas and flavors of vanilla, fudge, dried red and black fruits, and oak and leather with a round, vibrant, dryish medium-to-full body and a warming, captivating, medium-long finish manifesting impressions of dark chocolate fudge, black plum and black cherry, leather, and black tea with woody, firm, grippy, coating tannins and moderate oak flavor. This smells and tastes like a high quality Napa Cabernet that needs either several hours in a decanter or at least another 5 years in cellar to begin to unfurl. ~ Beverage Testing Institute
