Furthermore Wines is almost entirely dedicated to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. That in no way has inhibited them from producing truly this exceptional late harvest Petite Sirah. Given the care and attention that Pinot and Chardonnay require, Furthermore knows how to strike the right balance here. In this rare instance that they make wine from another grape, the result is magical.
With only fifteen years of winemaking, it is truly impressive how good the wines are that come from this estate. In 2015 Furthermore wines purchased the Graton Ridge vineyard, making this the first year they were able to make this Petite Sirah. The vintage was warm and bountiful in the Russian River Valley, perfectly ripening the fruit. This vineyard has always been highly regarded, and really thrives in great vintages like 2015.
Fortified Wine. 100% Petite Sirah. Plum, black cherry, oak and spice aromatics. Lightly sweet upon entry, with black cherry and dark chocolate flavors and a finish of baking spice. The wine is outstanding if you don’t like overly sweet, cloying dessert wines. The alcohol is well integrated and a single person could easily drink the whole half bottle - it’s that good!
From the vineyard around the winery property near the town of Graton, this is a tart and tangy red, spiced and exuberantly layered in pomegranate, blood orange and cranberry. With a twist of black licorice, it has tons of complex earthiness and a velvety smooth finish. ~92 Points Wine Enthusiast
