In the picturesque Haut-Médoc region, nestled within the Listrac-Médoc appellation, lies the historic Château Odilon. Acquired by the illustrious Baron Edmond de Rothschild in 1979 (Châteaux Clarke and Malmaison's owner, and connected to the Lafite family)this estate boasts a rich history and a unique terroir. Originally known as Château Peyre-Lebade, it was renamed in honour of the renowned painter Odilon Redon, who spent his childhood and much of his active life on the property, drawing inspiration from its serene landscapes.

Château Odilon stands out in the Médoc region, where Cabernet Sauvignon traditionally reigns supreme. Here, Merlot takes centre stage, thriving in the clay-limestone soils that provide excellent drought resistance. The vineyard, spanning 55 hectares, is primarily planted with Merlot, complemented by smaller plots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This distinctive blend gives Château Odilon a bright, aromatic character that sets it apart from its peers.

The vineyard management at Château Odilon is a testament to the dedication to quality and tradition. Sustainable farming practices are employed, with grass cover between the rows and meticulous leaf-thinning and green harvesting. The grapes, averaging 30 years of age, are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted to ensure only the finest fruit is used. Under the expert guidance of Technical Director Fabrice Darmaillacq, the estate continues to reach new heights of excellence.

Château Odilon, located in the Listrac-Médoc appellation, sits on a limestone plateau away from the Gironde estuary. This gives the estate a nicely sheltered environment. The clay-limestone soil is great for withstanding dry spells. Unlike most of the region where Cabernet Sauvignon rules, this terroir is perfect for Merlot, making Château Odilon stand out in the Médoc.

Very beautiful deep garnet color. The wine has an expressive nose marked by ripe, fresh fruits. Fine, slightly vanilla, notes of wood complete the bouquet after aeration. On the palate it is very elegant, where the coated tannins are tempered by a beautiful acidity. The whole is elegant, long, intense and gives way to a fruity and tasty finish.
