About the Wine

“Casanova di Neri is one of the shining stars of Montalcino. Each successive vintage released brings us a renewed understanding of the focus and the dedication demonstrated by the father and son team that operates this estate. The winemaking style is impeccable and elaborate. There’s a higher degree of texture and richness on display, and this is not often the case with Sangiovese.” ~Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

From the ancient Etruscan roots of Montalcino to the Middle Ages under the dominion of Siena, this illustrious wine embodies centuries of history and tradition. Founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, Casanova di Neri has blossomed from a humble dream into a beacon of Italian viticulture.

Montalcino, a picturesque town in Tuscany, has been a hub of winemaking since the mid-19th century. Casanova di Neri's story began with the purchase of Podere Casanova, a farm nestled on the eastern slopes of Montalcino. The estate’s unique terroir, enriched by iron and magnesium soils, was perfect for cultivating Sangiovese vines. This dedication to the land and its potential has resulted in wines that reflect the true spirit of Montalcino.

This wine showcases the meticulous care and expertise that defines Casanova di Neri. The grapes are handpicked from the estate's finest vineyards, including Fiesole, Cerretalto, and Collalli. Each vineyard contributes its unique character, creating a harmonious blend that is both complex and balanced. The wine undergoes rigorous aging in oak barrels, allowing it to develop its signature depth and elegance.

2019 in Brunello di Montalcino is looking to be one of the greatest vintages of recent years. Decanter says: ‘The strength of the vintage is that the wines will be enjoyable at any stage along the way, given the quality in 2019, Brunello enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice.”and referred to it as “A Superb Vintage!” Stock up on this amazing vintage today!

Aging: 43 months in oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 100% Sangiovese. Bright red and young. On the nose it is intriguing and generous, notes of bergamot, wild violet, cherry and morello cherry stand out. On the palate it is relaxed and harmonious, intense and succulent. The finish is of great balance, clear, savory and pressing.

Reviews

A great classic of the house, works of impeccable finesse between the countryside and the cellar for an emblematic product. Raspberry on the nose, hints of white pepper, touches of laurel and peony, then nuances of sweet licorice. Brackish-sapid on the mouth, with raspberry and floral notes. ~97+ Luca Gardini, Gardini Notes

The Casanova di Neri 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows thick fruit fabric with stitchings of underbrush, pressed rose, bright cherry, tobacco and balanced oak spice. This wine definitely has a special groove. It offers a ripe, round texture with good acidity followed by fine, chalky tannins. This is impressive quality for 109,600 bottles produced. In fact, this is one of the best village Brunellos from Giacomo Neri and his family made so far. I am extremely encouraged by this year's tasting from Casanova di Neri. To my mind, we have witnessed the great "sorpasso" (or overtaking in English) in which a new wine (the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Giovanni Neri) outperformed tried and true favorites like Cerretalto and Tenuta Nuova. This shows the deft talent and winemaking flexibility of Giacomo Neri, his sons and the entire winery team. Congratulations. ~ 95 Wine Advocate

Pouring a rich red color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino White Label takes on layered, savory aromas of leather, tobacco leaf, dried cherries, mocha, and a light rustic quality, although it’s very well-balanced. Medium to full-bodied, it’s pure and energetic, with rich, ripe concentration and ripe tannins. It’s approachable now and is a great entry into the vintage...It’s also a great value. Drink 2024-2034 ~93+ Jeb Dunnuck

Redcurrants and lavender followed by layers of dried herbs and spices. Full-bodied and opulent on the palate with chewy tannins. Persistent long finish with some citrusy undertones. Yet young, healthy and concentrated. Very attractive now and in the future. ~ 92 James Suckling
