The story of Château d'Issan begins in the 17th century, when the estate first rose to prominence in the heart of Margaux, one of Bordeaux's most renowned wine-producing regions. Its vineyards sit on the gravelly terraces of the Garonne river, where the terroir provides the ideal conditions for growing both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Over the centuries, the estate has garnered a reputation for crafting wines that embody the elegance and finesse of Margaux, and the Blason d'Issan is a perfect expression of this tradition, offering a more approachable but equally refined counterpart to the estate's Grand Vin.
The 2022 vintage was marked by a warm, dry summer, with a late harvest that allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly. This year saw a great balance between Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which together form the heart of Blason d'Issan. The 55% Merlot in the blend imparts the wine with a soft, round texture and rich fruit character, while the 44% Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure, depth, and the signature gravel minerality of Margaux. A small proportion of Petit Verdot further enhances the complexity, adding a touch of spice and color. This vintage is one of great balance, producing a wine that is as approachable as it is elegant.
Crafted with the same meticulous attention to detail as the estate’s flagship wine, Blason d'Issan 2022 is aged in oak barrels for 12 months, which enhances its complexity and integration. The result is a wine with a bright, fresh character, offering delicate notes of red fruits, roses, and a subtle oak influence. With its silky texture, vibrant acidity, and approachable charm, the 2022 Blason d'Issan is an excellent introduction to the world of Château d'Issan, delivering the elegance of Margaux in a way that is both accessible and memorable. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for a few years, this wine showcases the purity of the terroir and the estate’s dedication to quality.
