About the Wine

Monbousquet’s terroir is truly exceptional, with mostly warm, deep gravel to the south and sandy-clay soils to the north. As at Cheval Blanc and Figeac, its soils are largely gravel, and thus warm, so relatively late-ripening Cabernets can ripen perfectly. This natural feature accounts for a particularly large proportion of Cabernet grapes in the vineyard’s composition.

Dating back to 1540 Chateau Monbousquet is no stranger to winemaking. In its long history there estate has always been highly regarded for the wine that is produced, known both for power and finesse. In a vintage like 2016 where nearly all producers were able to make good wine, Monbousquet is able to make great wine.

Reviews

This is linear and creamy with lovely, fine tannins and dark-berry, violet, stone and licorice character. Medium-to full-bodied, racy and fresh. Charming. Freshness at the end. ~93-94 James Suckling
