Nestled between the majestic Simonsberg Mountains and Klapmuts Hill lies the Le Bonheur Wine Estate. A place where history, heritage, and wine converge.

Le Bonheur Wine Estate has a storied history dating back to the 1700s. Originally a resting place for travelers and traders, it was aptly named "Le Bonheur," meaning "happiness" by the De Villiers family. Today, it continues to exude a sense of timeless charm, offering lush green surroundings and natural spring waters.

Le Bonheur's 163-hectare estate is blessed with an enviable terroir featuring unmatched diversity. With vineyards facing north, east, and southeast at altitudes ranging from 200m to 400m above sea level, the estate's main soil types include Hutton, Tukulu Glenrosa, Klapmuts, and Kroonstad. This estate is home to some of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Stellenbosch, resulting in wines of remarkable depth and complexity.

Hand-harvested grapes and traditional winemaking techniques, influenced by the French, are the secrets behind Le Bonheur's elegant, full-bodied, and classically styled wines. William Wilkinson is the creative mind behind these wines.

Le Bonheur Prima Rouge is a classic blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. This medium to full-bodied wine reveals dense red fruit and a smooth texture, harmonious, polished, and elegant. William Wilkinson describes it as a balanced Stellenbosch symphony, with Merlot providing finesse and feminine elegance, Cabernet Sauvignon adding bold structure and power, and Cabernet Franc lifting the blend with fragrant notes of lavender and dried herbs.

This was a great year for Stellenboch, Wine Advocate blessed this year with a 93-point review, and said: "wines performed very well with slightly more refined tannins than in 2018."

Aging: 18 months, using a combination of 65% new and 35% second-use French oak.

37% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc. A classic, smooth wine, with lashings of ripe raspberries, opulent notes of dried tobacco, and hints of pencil shavings. A full-bodied and elegant wine, packed with layers of fruit and silky tannins. Perfect to enjoy now, and will cellar well for 5-10 years. A perfect match for grilled lamb chops.

A firm, linear red, yet lots of freshness. Violet, red plum, sour cherries, and a touch of dark chocolate. ~90 Decanter
