About the Wine

“The Veneto is its own vinous nation; it has the volume and the quality to stand on its own outside the context of Italian wine. One wine that shines particularly bright in the Veneto is the mighty Amarone, where “It is king,” made from only the best varietals in the region.” ~ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

Located right in the heart of the magical Valpolicella region, is the old and famous Marchesi Fumanelli winery. Since 1470, the Fumanelli family began their wine story with the plantation of its first vines, which until today, have been focused on the production of Amarone.

2010 Carolyne Roehm Amarone Riserva is a unique collaboration between the Marchesi Fumanelli winery and the renowned businesswoman, socialite, and American author, Carolyne Roehm.

The love of art, design, and wine were the factors that connected the owners of this winery with Carolyne, creating together this exquisite, limited, and exclusive label, which was designed and painted by Carolyn herself. To quote Carolyne "Like our friendship, this wine is great, it is daring, and it is to be savored".

The wine is the well-known label from the winery, called “Octavius Amarone Riserva”, which is not produced every year but only in the prime vintages, and is made with the finest grapes from the Squarano de Marchesi Fumanelli vineyards.

Carolyne Roehm is an important and highly-esteemed person in the world of design, fashion, and art; rubbing shoulders with some of the most important designers like Oscar de la Renta and Manolo Blahnik (who by the way, designed a pair of shoes and named them after her!).

Aging: French oak barrels and barrels of 500 liters for 48 months.

Tasting Notes: 40% Corvina, 40% Corvinone, and 20% Rondinella. Intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. The bouquet is complex with dark cherry and ripe berries, earthy notes, and slight hints of spice. Wonderful and sublime taste of vanilla and sweet cinnamon. The palate has elegant Corvina tannins, with savoriness and long-lasting softness. Complex and rich with ripened red fruit, chocolate, liquorice, and oak hints, full-bodied and elegant. Spiciness and more complexity will come with aging. Pair this wine with game, lamb, and blue cheese.

Reviews

This fresh, full-bodied red exudes ripe and dried fruit notes and flavors of baked currant, fig cake, spiced citrus peel and dried sage, tightly meshed with firm tannins and a smoky underpinning. Appealing now, but should open nicely with aging or decanting. Best from 2021 through 2031.” ~93 Wine Spectator.
