About the Wine

“A rare Champagne that truly reflects the terroir… A pure and intense moment with Champagne’s oldest grape variety. Made with 100% Meunier grape varietal, this surprising cuvée unveils subtle and fruity perfumes as well as a beautiful aromatic complexity.” ~Jose Michel & Fils.

Nestled in the picturesque vineyards of Moussy, just minutes from the capital of Champagne, Epernay, lies the Domaine José Michel et Fils. This illustrious house, with vineyards dating back to 1847, is one of the oldest winegrowing families in the region. Here, time-honoured methods meet a legacy of quality, ensuring each bottle tells a story of dedication and mastery.

The journey began in the 19th century with Paul Michel, who first harvested grapes and bottled wine in 1912. His pioneering spirit was followed by Raymond Michel, who expanded Champagne production and refined manipulation techniques. The torch was then passed to José Michel in 1955, whose visionary approach and unwavering commitment to quality have shaped the vineyards into what they are today. With the family tradition continuing through three sons and five grandchildren, the legacy lives on.

Winemaking at José Michel & Fils is an art, reflecting the unique character of the terroir and the talents of the winemaker. José Michel’s meticulous oversight of each production stage, from pressing to disgorging, ensures that every bottle embodies the essence of their heritage.

Tasting Notes: Pinot Meunier. On the nose, it reveals elegant notes of white fruit, pear, and subtle hints of citrus. The palate is harmoniously balanced, showcasing a delightful blend of freshness and richness, with a creamy texture that leads to a lingering, satisfying finish.

Reviews

Bright yellow. Intense, mineral-laced aromas of redcurrent, blood orange, ginger and smoke, with a hint of white pepper in the background. Dry and nervy, displaying very good clarity to its red berry and citrus fruit flavors. I'd have thought of dosage here was quite a bit lower. Spreads out slowly on the finish, with the mineral and red berry notes echoing. ~91 Vinous Media
