Let’s take a little trip back in time. Once upon the 18th century, Count Jean-Baptiste Lynch, an Irishman with impeccable taste, owned a Left Bank estate so vast, it eventually split into two legends—one became Château Lynch-Bages (yes, that Lynch-Bages), and the other? Well, you’re looking at it: Château Lynch-Moussas, the sleeper hit of Pauillac.

The classically designed château was constructed in 1850, standing as a testament to timeless elegance. Then, in 1919, Château Lynch-Moussas was purchased by the Casteja family and their negociant powerhouse, Borie Manoux. These are the same Bordeaux big shots behind other legendary estates like Château Batailley and Château Trotte Vieille.

Since acquiring Lynch-Moussas, the Casteja family has poured their expertise into refining both the vineyards and the winemaking process. And let’s just say, they know a thing or two about Bordeaux.

The vines that birth this beauty are planted in the classic Pauillac terroir—gravel, clay, and limestone, soaking up that Left Bank magic. And while some Bordeaux estates are all about squeezing every last drop out of their land, Lynch-Moussas plays the long game, keeping 140 hectares dedicated to lush greenery, forests, and parkland—because balance isn’t just for great wine, it’s for life.

Now, a quick warning: 2022 is shaping up to be a knockout year, and savvy collectors are already making their moves. So if you want a bottle (or, let’s be honest, a case) of a future classic, you might want to act fast.

2022 was an extraordinary vintage for Bordeaux, it was blessed with a 95-98 pt review by Wine Spectator who said: "A new paradigm for Bordeaux. Very aromatic and sleek, fresh and pure in feel, with all major varietals performing well; far more consistent than the 2018-2020 trio."

Aging:60% new French oak barrels for about 18 months.

74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot. Expectcool blue fruits on the nose, leading to anintensely fruited palate withripe blackcurrants. The wine isjuicy, fresh, and alive, with lean tanninsproviding afirm yet light grip. Notes ofblack pepper, cedar, tobacco, licorice, and a touch of coffee add complexity, culminating in alifted, juicy finish.

Over the past 20 years, progress has been impressive and the 2022 vintage marks an important milestone. With its licorice notes, it is seductive while masking a nice density. From a great classicism, it has gained in elegance to settle among the great Pauillacs with an unbeatable price-quality ratio. ~96-97 Bernard Burtschy

A more 'comfortable' yield has enabled a demanding blend. In addition to its usual finesse, this wine has a deep color, great fruitiness reminiscent of blueberry jelly, an appetizing juiciness and a fine smoky note. The tannic structure is perfect, present but supple, slender and slender enough to stand the test of time. ~96-97 Terre de Vins

Cool blue fruits on the nose, a little shy at this point. Intensely fruited, really rich and ripe but clean and clear, giving a depth of ripe blackcurrants but juicy, fresh and alive. Almost sharp, it’s intense with bite to the fruit and such lean tannins that give a firm but light grip to the mouth. I like the attack, it’s bold and confident but refined at the same time. Good fruit profile, balancing acidity and lovely lean, mineral tannins. Well structured, nothing too much or overdone with freshness throughout. Spicy, black pepper, cedar, tobacco, licorice, a touch of coffee, but all giving nuance underneath the fruit. It’s concentrated no doubt, this has power, but is presented carefully with such a lifted, juicy finish. ~95 Decanter

Dark purple color with violet hue and black core. Very fine nose with fragrant fruit, blackcurrant, blackberries, hints of mild spices and subtle oak. On the palate well-balanced with juicy fruit, sweet red and dark berries, discreet toasting. Fine spiciness in the aftertaste with very convincing length." ~95 Markus Del Monego, Tasting Book

Extremely well done with a full body and nicely integrated tannins that give this tension and power. The structure is wonderful. Minty. Chocolate-covered coffee beans. Serious but fun. ~94-95 James Suckling

The 2022 Lynch-Moussas is quintessentially Pauillac on the nose, with pencil shavings infusing the black fruit. Very composed and linear at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky entry. The acidity is nicely judged here, lending this Pauillac freshness and tension, quite precise with delicacy on the finish that is a welcome surprise after the warmth of the growing season. Excellent. ~91-93 Neal Martin
