Château La Lagune, a Third Growth (Troisième Cru Classé) Haut-Médoc estate has been turning heads since the 16th century, back when King Henri IV was busy charming the court and the Dutch were draining Bordeaux’s swamps to create what would become some of the world’s most sought-after vineyards. This estate has seen it all—royal indulgence, economic crises, a devastating frost in 1956 and a triumphant rebirth, thanks to a series of passionate owners who refused to let greatness fade.
Organic, sustainable, and utterly sophisticated, Château La Lagune has been on a mission to craft wines with both heritage and heart. Since 2016, they’ve been fully certified organic, proving that great wine and great responsibility go hand in hand. This is a Bordeaux that respects tradition while embracing the future—much like its fearless leader, Caroline Frey, an equestrian champion turned winemaker.
The 2022 vintage is an instant classic, ready to age gracefully if you have the patience, but equally ready to charm if you pop the cork right now. Pair it with grilled steak, roasted lamb, or a perfectly aged cheese—or just pour yourself a glass and enjoy the moment. Either way, you’re in for a ride.
2022 was an extraordinary vintage for Bordeaux, it was blessed with a 95-98 pt review by Wine Spectator who said: "A new paradigm for Bordeaux. Very aromatic and sleek, fresh and pure in feel, with all major varietals performing well; far more consistent than the 2018-2020 trio."
52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. Expect a fragrant and floral nose with notes of dark berries, cassis, licorice, and violets. The palate is broad, sensual, and supple, featuring velvety tannins and a suave, charming profile. Throughout the tasting, fruity scents mingle with subtle floral (peony) notes at the finish.
This is long and fresh with a linear feeling to the rich fruit, showing plums, redcurrants and spices, with chocolate and walnuts.Medium to full body. Fine tannins. This is the first year being certified biodynamic by Biodyvin and furthermore, La Lagune is always excellent in hot years.~95-96James Suckling
Fragrant and floral on the nose. Juicy and vibrant, this has a lovely weight and depth on the palate while remaining cool and fresh.~94Decanter
Reminding me, like the 2019, of a modern-day version of the lovely 1990, the 2022 La Lagune bursts with aromas of dark berries, cassis, licorice and violets. Medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, it's a broad, sensual wine with velvety tannins and a suave, charming profile."~93-95 Wine Advocate
Flowers, spices, white and black cherries, espresso, and tobacco crowd into the nose. On the palate, the wine is elegant, silky, and fresh, with sweetness, and lift on the palate. The refined finish leaves you with soft-textured, fresh, ripe, red berries and touches of herbs on the backend. Drink from 2026-2045. ~93-95 Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
Deep garnet, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Rather subtle cherry fruit, nuances of plums, fine nougat, orange zest, inviting bouquet. Elegant, good fruit, red cherries, integrated tannins. Mineral on the finish, dark chocolate on the back palate, certain aging potential. ~94 Falstaff
