The name of this estate alludes to its history as a Benedictine priory. The allure of Prieure Lichine has been on an upward trend since the middle of the last century and is currently producing some of the greatest wines the estate has ever seen

In 1951, Alexis Lichine, called “the Pope of Wine”, took over the estate and added his name two years later. Thanks to his patient determination, he was able to add new vineyard plots, modernize the cellars, and renovate the monks’ former living quarters. Château Prieuré-Lichine’s fate was linked to that of the Lichine family for nearly half a century.

A new approach to managing far-flung vineyard plots has turned this diversity into a decided advantage, enabling Prieuré- Lichine to express the full complexity of its terroir thanks to an experienced and devoted winemaking team.

Ripe and deeply scented on the nose and palate, a lingering florality follows the dark black fruits from start to finish. This has a lovely richness, more textural depth than some with salty, liquorice and wet stone tannins that support the fruit and give the frame. Rich and intense but so sleek. Super glamour on show, but elegant in its presentation. Definitely mineral, a salty coolness on the finish but textured tannins giving an appealing chalkiness too. Bold but restrained and super refreshing. A great wine. -94 Decanter

Aromas of blackcurrants, hot chocolate, vanilla bean and tar. It’s medium-bodied, with a firm tannin frame. Fine and focused. Better in a couple of years. Try from 2024. -92 James Suckling

Dark ruby, purple reflections, soft brightening on the rim. Some wild berries, floral nuances, a touch of blueberries, some chocolate, an inviting bouquet. Lean, red berries, some plum, integrated tannins, mineral, lingering, with ageing potential. ~91 Falstaff
