Step into the heart of Provence, where the sun-drenched vineyards of La Bastide Saint Dominique yield a wine that embodies the essence of Southern Rhône elegance. Nestled in the foothills of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this family estate has been crafting exceptional wines for over four decades. The story of Domaine La Bastide Saint Dominique began in 1976. Four years later, in 1980, the estate celebrated a milestone moment as they proudly produced, bottled, and sold their inaugural wine.

Built around a former 16th century chapel, the estate was founded by Marie-Claude and Gérard Bonnet, La Bastide Saint Dominique began as a humble dream nurtured on just a few hectares of land. Now, under the stewardship of their son Eric, this legacy continues to flourish, spanning 123 acres and producing a range of esteemed wines.

Here, tradition meets innovation, as the estate embraces organic farming practices to preserve the richness of the soil and the integrity of the vines. The unique terroir, characterized by limestone soils and tempered by the Mistral wind, imparts a distinctive character to each bottle. The estate has been certified organic since 2011.

Eric Bonnet, the mastermind behind La Bastide Saint Dominique, began his winemaking journey in the renowned vineyards of Burgundy. Influenced by the region's delicate approach, he expertly balances power and detail in every bottle. This fusion of Burgundian finesse and Southern Rhône terroir creates wines of unparalleled elegance and complexity.

The 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is a testament to the craftsmanship of La Bastide Saint Dominique. Meticulously cultivated vines, some over 80 years old, yield grapes of exceptional quality, while careful vinification ensures a wine that is both robust and refined.

Aging: 18 months in French oak barrels.

50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre, 15% Carignan. Very intense nose of jammy red fruits, kirsch liqueur and black berries. After aeration, more complexity with notes of laurel, pepper, cardamom and pine forest. Opulent attack in a crunchy style, with full-bodied and elegant tannins. Freshness at the finish with spices notes.

Garrigue, savory red fruits, and spice come alive with little effort. Here, you find a medium-bodied, elegant, soft, fruit-filled, expression of Grenache. There is a lushness to the fruits that feels just great on your palate. This is already so easy to drink, I snuck in a taste or two, writing this note. The Mourvedre in the blend adds a lot to the wine. Drink from 2023 - 2035. ~93 The Wine Cellar Insider

Classic red and black fruits, peppery herbs, spice, and dried flower notes emerge from the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape, a ripe, sexy, rounded, traditional Châteauneuf du Pape that has medium to full-bodied richness, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It's going to drink brilliantly for 10-12 years. ~92 Jeb Dunnuck

Strong ruby, purple reflections, faint ochre brightening on the rim. Fresh strawberry confit, sweet dark cherries, soft notes of currants, orange zest. Juicy, medium complexity, fruity, vivid tannins, mineral finish, a versatile food wine. ~92 Falstaff

The nose is fruity, fresh, very discreet tight and offers minerality. It reveals notes of fresh/fleshy apple, fresh/crunchy vine peach, small notes of fresh lychee associated with small touches of lemon, a hint of fresh lime as well as discreet hints of apricot, mandarine flowers, a very discreet hint of tilleul and an imperceptible hint of bee wax/garrigue (in the background). The palate is fruity, fresh, well-balanced and offers a juicy/acidulous frame, a good definition, juiciness, a small gourmandize, a fine tension, a small fat as well as a fine suavity. On the palate this wine expresses notes of fleshy/juicy green apple, ripe lemon, small notes of fresh/juicy apricot associated with small touches of juicy/fleshy nectarine, lychee, apple flowers as well as a subtle hint of apricot flowers, a racy minerality and an imperceptible hint of bee wax. Good length. ~90 VertdeVin
