Oh, Chianti! We all love this place. I mean, is there anything more enchanting and artistic than this Tuscan charming hill-covered region? This is a place loaded with history, art, legends, stunning landscapes, and delectable wines. This appellation produces what James Suckling said, “some of the finest wines in Italy and the world.” And, one of the best-known and most appreciated wines in the world is Chianti Classico.

Rocca delle Macie lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico region at the center of Tuscany. Although the estate and to a larger extent, the region is famous for its Sangiovese, Super Tuscans have been driving it home. In the 2015 vintage the estate decided to take a risk and bottle this as a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon instead of its typically Cab-Sangiovese blend, and it certainly paid off. Production was low on this wine, do not miss your chance to add this to your collection.

Rocca delle Macìe was established in 1973 when former Boxer and Movie director Italo Zingarelli decided to realize his lifelong dream by acquiring the “Le Macìe” estate(extending across 93 hectares (230 acres) in all, of which only two were under vine) in order to create a winery in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Rocca delle Macìe implements agronomic techniques that are geared not only towards constantly improving the products but also towards respecting the environment.

Rocca delle Macìe was established on a solid base of ethical values, constructed by Italo in order to make his dream a reality. The respect of his children and their capacity to build upon what they had received did the rest. The Zingarelli family has not compromised on this approach as the business has grown. Rocca delle Macìe has now become one of the largest wine producers in Italy, and remain committed to preserving a land that is healthy and clean, and always in a position to offer up its very best fruits.

Chianti Classico has two additional levels that determine the wine's quality and aging. "Chianti Classico Riserva" wines need at least two years in barrel (24 months) plus three months in bottle before being released.

100% Sangiovese. Intense ruby red with garnet reflections. Persistent aromas of ripe, red berries and plums. Well-balanced, with forward fruit, smooth tannins and a lengthy finish.

Aromas of blueberries and hints of dark chocolate and bark follow through to a full body, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Better in a year or two when it comes together.~93 James Suckling

This red evokes smoke and tar flavors, along with blackberry, plum and iron notes. Bright, dense and persistent on the lengthy finish. Gains fruit and purity with air, so decant now or wait a few years. Best from 2019 through 2029. 4,500 cases made. ~92 Wine Spectator

Rocca delle Macie Tenuta Sant'Alfonso is from a 40ha single vineyard site now completely replanted in the central Classico part of the Chianti DOC. Sant'Alfonso is sangiovese grown on clay heavy soils giving the wine a richer, fuller palate mixing liquorice and wet mud scents with cherries, milk chocolate and earthy spices. Big but supple, it has persistent length in the mouth and a fine, chalky finish. A partner with aged cheeses and a variety of richer pasta dishes. Drink or hold, there is no rush here. Yields are low at 5-6 tons per hectare. ~91 Gismondi on Wine

Matt, dark ruby red with a violet reflection. Fragrantly inviting nose with notes of blackcurrants, cassis, and also light leather. Juicy with fairly young tannins, juicy, medium pressure in the finish. ~90 Falstaff
