"If I were awarding an Oscar for finest performance by a winery, von Siebenthal would be my winner." ~J.Miller, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
For over two decades, Mauro von Siebenthal, a Swiss lawyer turned passionate winemaker, pursued his dream of creating exquisite wines. With the support of four friends, Viña von Siebenthal was born in 1998, and since then, it has been crafting wines that harmoniously blend vineyards, cellar, and house, much like the revered Bordeaux chateaux.
Viña von Siebenthal's four main vineyards are nestled in the historical wine-growing area of Panquehue, within the Aconcagua Valley. This exclusive sub-appellation in Chile is renowned for producing some of the finest Bordeaux varietals. Positioned between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean, this semi-desert area boasts an ideal climate, ensuring excellent phyto-sanitary conditions.
Through meticulous study of soil and sunlight exposure, Viña von Siebenthal has mastered the art of matching grape to ground. The cool, clay-limestone soils of the plains are perfect for Merlot and Cabernet Franc, while the warm, sandy, stony soils of the hills are ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carmenère, and Petit Verdot.
Embracing organic farming principles and environmental respect, the vines are cultivated with precision. To intensify the aroma of the grapes, the yield is carefully reduced. Harvesting occurs in the early morning to avoid microfermentation, and the vinification process begins immediately after.
Viña von Siebenthal's cellar is a harmonious blend of state-of-the-art technology and the traditional architecture of the Chilean "bodega". This elegant facility is where the magic happens, transforming grapes into the exceptional wines that Viña von Siebenthal is celebrated for.
The Carmenere grape, originally from Bordeaux, found a new home in Chile, where it thrives in the Aconcagua Valley. In Panquehue, 15 years ago, Carmenere was planted on the granitic slopes of Orocoipo hill. This 2018 Gran Reserva embodies complexity and delicacy, a wine that Bacchus himself would cherish.
Aging: 12 months in oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: 85% Carmenère, 15%Cabernet Sauvignon. Experience the deep, rich flavors of blackberries, plums, and dark chocolate, intertwined with hints of spice and a touch of smokiness. Full-bodied with a velvety texture, offering a long, elegant finish that lingers on the palate.
