Los Vascos is owned by the Domaines Barons de Rothschild, the owners of none other than the world-famous Château Lafite Rothschild.Lafite is a Bordeaux First Growth classified Château, and one of the most iconic, sought-after, and loved wines of all savvy wine drinkers.

Nestled in the heart of Chile's Colchagua Valley, Viña Los Vascos benefits from an ideal microclimate, positioned between the Andes and the Coastal Mountain Range. This unique location, just 200 km south of Santiago, provides the perfect conditions for viticulture. With hot, dry days and cool, wet nights, the dramatic temperature contrasts favor the slow ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, resulting in wines of remarkable elegance and depth.

The estate spans 8,800 acres, with 1,500 acres dedicated to vine cultivation. The terroir of Viña Los Vascos is diverse, featuring volcanic soils that contribute to the complexity and longevity of the wines. Here, ancient traditions harmoniously blend with modern expertise, yielding wines that are both unique and reflective of their rich heritage.

At Viña Los Vascos, the philosophy extends beyond viticulture. The estate is a vibrant ecosystem where biodiversity thrives. From olive groves producing exquisite olive oil to orchards, gardens, and even beehives, the integration of agriculture and nature is seamless. Sheep graze the pastures, providing natural fertilizer, while horses are traditionally bred and used for property surveillance.

This commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of the vineyard's operations. The estate is certified by the Code of Sustainability of Wines of Chile and proudly composts all plant waste. Innovative water management systems, including the use of earthworm-powered filtration, ensure that the vineyard operates in harmony with its environment.

Derived from the Greek word for colour, Cromas at Los Vascos signifies nature’s language. Every hue and shade tells a story, guiding their vineyard practices.

In the foothills, they found ochre granite perfect for new vineyards. These soils and sun exposure foster well-balanced vines, producing precise and elegant wines. Cromas wines, aged 12 months in barrels, reflect their expertise and the terroir’s potential.

Aging: 12 months in oak barrels.

85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 5% Carménère. Intense ruby-red color with glints of garnet. Initially, the nose presents scents of fresh strawberry, red cherry, gooseberry and blue flowers. Then subtle notes of bay, tobacco, caramel and graphite emerge. On the palate, the wine is generous with soft yet lively tannins, leading into a long, lingering finish.

An attractive cabernet sauvignon with blackcurrant, tobacco and some spice. It’s medium-bodied with round tannins and a flavorful finish. Very typical for a cab. 85% cabernet, 10% syrah and 5% carmenere. Delicious now. ~92 James Suckling

~92 Tim Atkin, Master of Wine

Deep ruby in colour with purple reflections and subtle brightening on the ochre rim. On the nose, delicate leafy nuances of cassis and liquorice, a touch of nougat and orange zest. The palate has medium complexity with rounded tannins and fine fruit expression with notes of cherry compote. Already accessible this is a versatile wine. ~91 Falstaff

This is a selection of vineyards about 40 years old on the Los Vascos property in the Peralillo area, in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. Aged for a year in barrels, a third of which are new wood, you can feel the heat of the area in the aromas and flavors of ripe fruits; The texture has firm tannins, wrapped in a gentle acidity and a medium, juicy body with a slightly herbal finish. ~91 Descorchados Magazine

In the late 1980s, Domaines Barons de Rothschild took over the Los Vascos estate in the Colchagua Valley of Chile. This Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva seriously over-delivers for its $22 SRP. Dark fruit notes of black currant and blackberries make way for secondary and tertiary notes, including spice rack, cigar box, and vanilla. Marked earthiness, cracked black pepper notes, and well-integrated (though prevalent) tannins add to the layers of complexity. Serve this wine with a simply grilled steak. ~91 Decanter
