"Chardonnay is, to my mind, the greatest white wine grape. Its finest expression lies within the dry wines from Burgundy, where the concept of terroir is not just a marketing angle but a fundamental philosophy." ~Decanter
Roches translates from French as “Rocks” and refers to the famous limestone rocks or cliffs that are located in the beautiful region of Burgundy in France.
If you are a Burgundy wine lover, I’m sure you are familiar with Mâconnais, the southernmost wine region in all of Burgundy. Mâcon is known for producing the best value for money wines in all of Burgundy. Right in the heart of this region, is Reserve des Roches, founded in 1928, one of the oldest and most important wine cellars in this area and which is still up and running to this day.
The Reserve des Roches vineyards are in a privileged location, where you’ll find classic expressions of white Burg. The soils are composed of calcareous limestone from the Jurassic era and some clay deposits, combined with the microclimate, this region is responsible for producing high-quality white wines. The vineyard is managed with sustainable and organic practices.
2016 was a good year for Burgundy, Wine Spectator blessed this vintage with a 92 point review and said it delivered "charming, elegant wines, accessible yet with good structure."
100% Chardonnay. The nose is delicately expressive, with citrus notes like lemon and grapefruit, tropical fruit, almond blossom, and white rose that bring an aromatic complexity. Its body, length, and balance render a beautiful and well-rounded wine. This wine pairs lovely with goat cheese, grilled chicken, and fish dishes.
