About the Wine

Amuse Bouche translates to entertainment for your mouth and this thriller certainly lives up to the estates' name. Made from a blend of Bordeaux and Rhone varieties there isn't a point on your palate that this wine won't tickle.

100-point superstar Heidi Barret is the fuel to the Vin Perdu Fire. The echoing of Heidi's name will send chills down the arms of the most esteemed Napa wine connoisseurs. Barrett has produced wine for some of the most prestigious Napa Valley Estates, including Screaming Eagle & Dalla Valle. She's produced a variety of 100-point wines and set a record for the highest price ever paid for a single bottle of wine. Heidi is undoubtedly seen as one of Napa's elite winemakers whose bottles consistently retail in triple and quadruple digits. Getting your hands on a Heidi Barrett wine under $100 a bottle is a near-impossible feat and borderline outrageous, that's what makes this wine so special. Heidi's talents are sure to impress and at this price point, it's a no-brainer.

In 2002, Heidi partnered with longtime friend John Schwartz to create the luxury wine brand, Amuse Bouche, a Pomerol-inspired Merlot from Napa Valley. Recognizing that the cult wine phenomenon had created an almost aspirational class structure among collectors, the partners decided to make this limited edition wine available to a much broader consumer base but with a collector pedigree. The Vin Perdu bottling is intended to be indicative of each vintage, with the blend changing from year to year and made in limited quantities.

Tasting notes: 67.4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17.7% Syrah and 14.9% Cabernet Franc. Deep and dark purple. This wine hops out of the glass with big ripe dark fruits and just a sprinkle of cracked black pepper. On the palate, it is surprisingly agile and vibrant.

Reviews

A red with bright purple fruit and crushed stones. Flowers and some chili spice, too. Full-bodied with creamy, chewy tannins and a long, fresh finish. So tasty now. Lovely depth. 42.3% cabernet sauvignon, 33.1% petit verdot, 16.9% merlot, 6.2% malbec and 1.5% petite sirah. Drink now. ~94 James Suckling (v.2019)

The Vin Perdu is once again fabulous in 2019. Sweet tobacco, cedar, licorice, spice, leather and menthol lend notable aromatic complexity and nuance. This mid-weight, flavorful Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend hits all the right notes. It's an absolute joy to taste, not to mention a very serious second wine. ~94 Vinous Media (v.2019)
