The KING of Italy is BAAAACK!
If you're a fan of Italian wine or a Barolo enthusiast, you've probably realized that finding a superb Barolo at a reasonable price is like discovering a unicorn – it seems almost impossible! But that's exactly where we make our magic, the impossible possible:
Not too long ago (just last year, to be exact), we embarked on an epic journey to the heart of the Barolo region. Our mission was very simple, yet bold: to find a Barolo that would not only impress for its high quality but could be enjoyed on any given Monday night without feeling like you’re breaking the bank or breaking your palate! We wanted a balanced blend of opulence, decadence, and a dash of classic Barolo… here we are.
During one of our many wine events, something exciting unfolded: We crossed paths with Viti Colte, one of Piedmont's largest cooperatives, and that's when the story took a thrilling turn.
We had some great chats, did some serious tasting, and eventually got to try their under-the-radar winery called Scrimaglio. (By the way, Scrimaglio wasn't available in the USA at the time.) And guess what? Boom! In no time, we were doing business with them – and I mean, we wanted it all! We boldly brought in almost their entire lineup. So, what sets this winery apart? Terrific terroir, savvy members, and cutting-edge science, top-quality wines.
And today, we shine the spotlight on the 2019 Scrimaglio Barolo DOCG:
This is the epitome of what a great Barolo should be – a 100% Nebbiolo masterpiece. It weaves a captivating tapestry of spices, licorice, coffee, and dried roses into an aroma that's downright enchanting. The palate is perfectly balanced, full-bodied, and velvety tannins, featuring flavors of plum and a hint of jam. This wine is the perfect mix of sophistication and depth.
This wine is a real winner, receiving 94 points from the IWSC and 92 points from Luca Maroni, who named it one of the "best Italian wines of the year." It comes from an outstanding Barolo vintage that earned a 96-point review.
