98 Pt Vintage, WS: 2015 Chateau D'Issan Margaux Blason d'Issan.

As you might have already noticed, here at BHW we are crazy about Second Wines. I said it once and I’ll say it again: These are some of the best buys Bordeaux has to offer. Think about it. These wines hail from some of the most prized vineyards in the world. The wines are made by the best, most innovative winemaking teams anywhere. And, these second wines sell for a fraction of the classified growth wines.

Today’s offer is a wine that not only we love, but so does wine critic, Antonio Galloni from Vinous Media. No kidding, he literally wrapped up his critical review with the words “I loved it.” And just like Galloni and we loved it, we’re sure you will too. Please welcome the 2015 Chateau D'Issan Margaux Blason d'Issan.

Chateau D'Issan is a 3rd growth classified Château. See, there’s something so magical about 3rd growths, wines in this category provide excellent value. This is the type of value wine lovers and wine collectors dream of.

This Château is one of the oldest estates in the region and is located in one of the best terroirs in the world. Just to give you an idea, it's just over 1 mile away from recognized Château Margaux (that’s right, a 15-minute walk away from one of the best Châteaux in the world!)

Wines from 1st growth Château Margaux can easily go from $750 to $2000, depending on the vintage. But this bad boy right here, the wine that Vinous called a “superb second wine,” is about $700+ less. (that’s only $47.98/bottle)

This blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 40% Merlot, shows a fresh, floral, perfumed nose. It offers black fruit aromas, like dark plums, blueberries, and blackcurrants with pencil shavings. Satin tannins. This wine is supple, mellow, and harmonious.

James Suckling tells us that this wine is “so delicious now” and “really hard not to drink now,” in his 93pt review, and that’s completely right. However, if you’re patient enough to cellar this wine for a good couple of years, I’m telling you … it's worth it.
