Elegant & Powerful: 2019 Daou Vineyards Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles
When talking about wine from Paso Robles there's one variety and one producer that outshines the rest. That is Cabernet Sauvignon and Daou Vineyards. Today, we have both.
In the heart of the Adelaida District in Paso Robles stands the Daou mountain. This mountain was described by renowned California winemaker, André Tchelistcheff, as “a jewel of ecological elements.” This ecological paradise helped create the 94 point 2019 Daou Vineyards Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
Daou Vineyards has quickly become the preeminent destination in all of Paso Robles. Daou is also on its way to being one of California's greatest estates. This family-owned property with French roots and an American foundation perfectly epitomizes the synergistic blend between old world and new world.
The 2019 Reserve Cab opens with a highly perfumed nose along with a powerful and balanced palate brimming with layers of boysenberry, black plum, sweet cherry, cigar box, mocha, crushed herbs, leather, and vanilla crème brûlée. Its firm, fine-grained tannins provide ample structure to support a lengthy finish.
Such a complex palate is only achievable through two unique aspects: Highly talented winemaking and possibly the greatest vintage DAOU Mountain has ever experienced. Daou tells us that the conditions during dormancy were ideal and that the climate throughout the growing season was perfect. The resulting wines are marked by elegance and power, with moderate alcohols and great acidity that promise excellent longevity.
If fancy yourself a California Cabernet Sauvignon connoisseur–especially ones that "will compete with any number of impressive Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons"–then this is the wine for you.
