Incredible Value Bordeaux: 2018 Chateau Eyquem

Around the small town of Bourg-sur-Girone, northwest of the city of Bordeaux, where the Dordogne and Garonne meet, you’ll find Côtes De Bourg. It’s one of the oldest wine-producing regions in France, with an optimal terroir for Merlot-based reds. It’s here that well-known Bordeaux producer Bayle-Carreau has its beautiful 17th-century Château Eyquem, and it’s here that they produce the elegant Merlot-based Bordeaux we’re offering today.

The 2018 Château Eyquem "Les Terrasses" Côtes De Bourg is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Malbec. The vintage in Bordeaux that year was outstanding, one that was awarded 96 points by Vinous Media, who stated that "It is a very strong vintage that falls just short of being truly epic."

The grapes grown in that just-short-of-epic vintage come from a first-class vineyard that produces well-structured and refined wines. They’re turned into wine in Eyquem’s cellars which are located in a former quarry. The estate has been making wines for centuries—its first record of producing wines since Roman times. This enchanting place was a summer residence for Louis d'Eyquem, a family member of the famous philosopher Michel Eyquem de Montaigne.

When Bayle-Carreau took over the estate in the 20th century, they restored and expanded the vineyard that’s situated in fine clay-limestone soil and a temperate microclimate thanks to the nearby rivers. The vines are now grown according to the precepts of sustainable viticulture. Bayle-Carreau’s mantra is “Sustainability is at the center of all operational decisions.”

Current owner, Xavier Carreau says, “The constant pursuit of perfection and innovation are the foundations of the Bayle-Carreau. For five generations, we have honed our skills as winegrowers and winemakers, combining all our talents to create something unique. Day after day, we strive to produce top-notch wines.”

At Château Eyquem, not only are the wines top-notch, they’re also incredible values. This rich, elegant, distinguished Bordeaux drinks way above its price. Its powerful bouquet, notes of violet, and raciness will convince you that you’re drinking a much more expensive Bordeaux.

If you don’t tell anyone, we won’t tell anyone that you paid almost 50% off this BHW-exclusive selection, bringing it to an eye-popping value price. And, it’s the Lowest Price Anywhere on this sustainable Bordeaux from the outstanding 96-point vintage.
